Wouldn't your horse like to have this diagnosed at the one or two occasions they get per year to reveal what their mouth looks like?
Left shows an image showing the lesion on the gingiva (gum) using a mirror and a special dental light (sedated, of course to immobilise the mouth and prevent pain).
Right shows the same lesion using an oroscope, or camera inside the mouth. This device is getting a bit popular as the newest gadget on the block.... I have used an oroscope standard for 4 years now.
It shows, that a new gadget may be useful, and in some advanced cases invaluable like during the placement of fillings, or extracting big cheek teeth. However, a good light and a good mirror in skilled hands, is also very good. And in my opinion, not replaced by an oroscope; some things I can just evaluate better using a mirror, and some I prefer a scope for. Either way, our vet practice has your horse covered.
