Northlands Animal Care Hospital Northlands Animal Care Hospital is a purpose-built companion animal veterinary hospital in Papanui, Christchurch. We also offer ultrasound imaging.

We are open 6 days a week, and pride ourselves in our caring, quality service. Northlands Animal Care Hospital was first established in the Papanui area in 1981. We then outgrew our original
location (opposite Northlands Mall) and in 2000 moved into a brand new purpose built hospital, which complies
with strict “American Animal Hospital Association Standards” and is located on the corner of Cranfo

rd Street and Main North Road. Your pet’s health and well-being are our highest priority! It is our goal to preserve and strengthen that,
using modern veterinary medicine with good old-fashioned care, compassion and respect!! Your pet has the benefits of the latest medical technology at Northlands Animal Care Hospital. Our caring Veterinarians and staff have a fantastic level of expertise. Our commitment for all of our staff is to continuing education, with training in superior technology and the latest medicines, diagnostics and procedures. We are happy to answer all questions about your pet’s health anytime! Our surgical procedures use state of the art equipment in which we perform a wide range of procedures from soft tissue and cancer treatment to more advanced orthopaedic and reconstructive operations. We have a modern onsite lab that gives us a complete blood picture and internal profile in less than 15 minutes. Our radiology suite provides while you wait x-rays. We can then develop an appropriate treatment plan for your pet. We welcome all new puppies and kittens into our practice and we have wellness plans for pets of every age. We believe that client education is the first and most important step to promoting excellent pet health. We offer up to date educational material for clients to take home. 1. Dental disease doesn't always stay in the mouth. Inflamed and diseased gums can allow oral bacteria to enter the bloodstream. From there, bacteria can circulate throughout the body - which is one of the many reasons we take dental disease seriously.
2. Eating does NOT mean their mouth isn't painful. Pets are incredibly good at adapting to dental pain. May will continue eating completely normally despite fractured teeth.
3. The part of the tooth you can see isn't the whole story. A huge amount of dental disease happens below the gum line. A toothe can look relatively innocent from the outside while there's significant disease underneath - which is why dental xrays are so important.
4. It's more that "just a bit of tartar". Plaque contains bacteria. Once it hardens into calculus and inflammation develops around the gum line, we're heading into periodontal disease territory - and brushing alone can't undo the established disease.
5. The best dental is the one we can help you avoid. Good dental care starts before there's a problem. Brushing, dental diets, appropriate chews and regular checks can help keep disease at bay - because we'd rather help you prevent a sore mouth than treat one.
The mouth is part of the body, and dental health is healthcare. We promis we're not obsessed with your pet's teeth for no reason!
