Dogs for adoption - Christchurch City Council

ADOPT ME! Meet Jeff, our 10mth old neutered male, staffy mix.

Jeff has been with us for a few weeks now - has had some meet and greets, but is still waiting for his perfect people to walk through our door!

He has been our go to socialiser for our other pound dogs - he loves full on play, fetching, tug - and when he gets told off by other dogs for being TOO much, he tries to listen ....... you would think with those ears he would listen really well ......... but sometimes they are just an accessory to make him look cool 🤔 He is learning!!

Jeff has been at home with staff the last few days - here is what we have learned -

🔸Travels well in the car (but not so keen to get in sometimes)
🔸Walks OK on lead - still getting use to a harness
🔸House trained, clean and tidy
🔸Sleeps well in his crate overnight, quiet through the night
🔸 Loves to snuggle up with another dog and/or his people
🔸Is keen to learn new tricks - very food motivated (has had some basic training)
🔸No sign of any fence jumping
🔸No food or toy guarding

We have been told by a previous owner that he is not suitable around small animals (rabbits etc)

A staff member took him home to see her cats - he was indifferent to them, not really interested, more interested in meeting people and sniffing - so possibly cat trainable ???

We don't know what he is like around children - but due to some jumpiness - older dog savvy children may be OK?

Jeff truly is a lovely boy, eager to please and very sweet- but he can forget his manners at times - he will get there, he just needs a little help and guidance👍

How good is this!! We are so pleased Noah found an awesome job and is living his best life. Well done Noah 🥰

New kids on the block!!!

Foxy, a 3-yr old female Bearded collie cross😍
This absolutely stunning girl loves to spend her time playing with ropes and running around the paddock. Unknown what she is like in a home environment or what she is like with kids and other animals.

Justin, a 18mth old male American staffy cross ❤️
This young guy loves to play with a few of our girls, he has that typical bully breed style play of running and bumping into things. Unknown what he is like in home environment or with kids and other animals.

If you like the look of one of these dogs, we are open from 1pm to 5pm Monday to Friday.

Update 29/05 - Mister Jacko has now been adopted 🙌🙌❤️

UPDATE 26/5 - GREAT news - we are working through an application for Jacko, so excited for this wee boy🥰 We will update further when he is off to his new home! 🤞

ADOPT ME! Jacko is a 4yr old neutered male border collie/french bulldog, only a little dude at 14kg 🙂

Now, he has had a few meet and greets, but we think people are put off by his obsessiveness with sticks/toys - he would love someone to throw them ALL day!

We know he is high energy and he needs that sharp brain to be challenged - but - here is the good news - he does have an OFF switch 👍

He has been home with staff the past week,and he has been a delight to have around! After a walk and throwing/fetching - he happily settles for quiet couch time ❤

Travels well in the car ✅️
Clean and tidy around home (past the digging/chewing phase) ✅️
Sleeps well inside in crated area, hangs on✅️
Walks well in his harness ✅️
Can be left happily in the car while doing a short shop ✅️

He has been dog social with all our female dogs at the pound, hasn't liked our boy dogs though. He loves water 💧
Unknown what he is like around cats or other animals. Not sure what he is like around children, he still occasionally jumps head height, so older children may be suitable.

UPDATE 3/6/26 - More good news - Paddy has been adopted !!! Yay 👍

UPDATE 28/5 - Exciting news - Miss Coco has been adopted!!! 😍

The next dogs available for adoption are these two special cases ☺️

They will really need the right people to come and give them their second chance as they have both been let down in the past.

Meet-

Paddy 💚, Pom cross male 7 years old, an absolute smooch who loves nothing more than hanging out and having cuddles, any opportunity this little man has he will get on your lap.
Paddy's issue is that he will require a lot of dental work when he finds the right home (we should have better idea of what's required for his teeth when he comes back from being neutered on Thursday, likely to be costly!) We will keep you updated on this sweet boy.
UPDATE 21/5 re Paddy/dental = He will need multiple extractions and the cost up to $2000 est

Coco 🩷, Rottweiler, 7 years old, the happiest girl on the adoption lane, loves meeting new people and leaning in for lots of cuddles, a real sweetheart.
Coco's issue is she is very Obese and is looking for a home that can help her get back to a healthy weight as she is currently sitting at 58kgs.

15/6/26 - Here are our current dogs for adoption

As per our process, we don't know if they are good around children/cats/other animals. We will endeavour to mix them with other dogs in the coming days - and get some stories up of them out and about 🐕🥎

23/4/26 - We currently have NO dogs for adoption - they have all been snapped up! We have had so many amazing people coming in to adopt and of course we have the support of our wonderful rescues 🥰 We have no dogs due on our adoption lane until 4 May - we will update after this. Thank you everyone

We would be so lost without Christchurch Bull Breed Rescue !!! They take so many dogs from us, and are there for us to offer support/advice at anytime - please share, hopefully that one person sees this and can help 🤞🤞🤞

It’s crunch time!!! 🚨

Our rescue centre has been sold, our lease expires in 65 days & we have no place to go!

We have been searching high & low for another property to lease but we have had zero luck & time is fast running out.

We currently lease an 820sqm concrete sealed section in industrial Woolston with a small garage & office. This costs us $3900 per month to lease. While ideally we want to grow in size, in these uncertain times we have to be realistic. Donations are down by more than $40,000 in the past year so a lease of this size is not going to be sustainable.

Christchurch is a small place. We all know someone who knows someone. So we are calling in all favours & putting this alert out to anyone & everyone. If you have never shared one of our posts before, please make this the first!

Calling all estate agents, real estate tycoons, & land bankers. Everyone’s whose brother or sister is into property. Your rich uncle Arthur who likes dogs, the mayor, King Chuck? SPREAD the WORD! Please help us find somewhere suitable to go.

CBBR has always been the shelter a community built & now we need your help to build another one. Shutting up shop is not an option. The dogs need us! ❤️

We shared wee Figs post a few weeks ago - she is being fostered by one of our amazing staff members on behalf of Pound Paws Rescue - we have been so lucky to meet her - she is the sweetest/cutest wee bundle! But she has had a very rough start 😢

Unfortunately she needs more help! This little fighter now needs major surgery to correct a perforation in her stomach. We have everything crossed that this will be a success for you Fig, stay strong little girl 🩷
