💙 **GOODBYE TO A LEGEND — PETER CULLEN** 💙

💙 **GOODBYE, PETER CULLEN — MY OPTIMUS PRIME** 💙

There are some voices you hear as a child that never really leave you.

Peter Cullen's was one of them.

Growing up, I watched **Optimus Prime** and saw more than just a cartoon character. I saw a leader. A protector. A hero. Someone who stood up for what was right, looked after those around him, and carried the weight of leadership without ever losing his compassion.

And behind that character was Peter Cullen.

His voice became the voice of my childhood.

I remember watching Transformers and hearing those words come from Prime, never really understanding as a kid just how much those lessons would stay with me as I grew older.

**“Be strong enough to be gentle.”**

What a lesson.

Optimus taught us that true strength isn't about being the loudest, the angriest or the most powerful. It's about having the strength to protect others. To show compassion. To lead by example. To care.

Peter Cullen gave that meaning to Optimus Prime in a way that nobody else ever could.

Then, years later, a whole new generation got to experience that same magic through the Transformers movies. Kids who hadn't grown up with the original series suddenly had their own Optimus Prime — and once again, Peter's unmistakable voice was there.

Generations of kids were positively impacted by the character he brought to life.

That's a hell of a legacy.

So today, I don't just say goodbye to an actor or a voice.

I say goodbye to a small but incredibly important piece of my childhood.

Thank you, Peter, for the Saturday mornings, the adventures, the battles between Autobots and Decepticons, and for giving a kid growing up a hero worth looking up to.

Thank you for giving us **Optimus Prime**.

And somehow, I can't help but picture Cybertron tonight.

Because maybe Cybertron isn't saying goodbye.

Maybe it's welcoming its Prime home.

After all these years, **Cybertron has finally got its TRUE Prime back.** 💙

Our newest RIO, JESTER, has been seriously busy this week.

🐺 First mission: HIT THE PARK!

A good run around, plenty of play, some stay training...

And then Jester decided to introduce the new RIO VAMPIRE to the squadron.

Let's just say...

All in good fun, of course.

We also went back over some of our old missions to see what Jester remembered.

After successfully completing Operation Shadow, it was time for our newest recruit, Jester, to report for his next assignment.

🎯 Mission Objectives:

✅ Receive scheduled vaccinations.

✅ Be fitted with brand-new tactical equipment.

✅ Meet members of the public.

✅ Maintain professionalism.

✅ Try not to embarrass himself.

Simple mission...

Or so I thought.

READY FOR DEPLOYMENT.

The first stop was the vet.

Now, let's be honest...

Nobody exactly puts "getting needles" on their list of favourite hobbies.

But true to form, Jester handled it like an absolute professional.

It was time for a serious upgrade.

Held today at Eastgate, this fantastic free community event brought together local dog lovers, owners, trainers and organisations with one simple goal...

Helping dogs live happier, healthier and safer lives.

These events are worth their weight in gold.

They give owners access to advice.

Support.

Education.

Health information.

Training tips.

And most importantly...

A welcoming community that genuinely cares about dogs.

Christchurch is incredibly lucky to have organisations like DogWatch investing their time and energy into making life better for both dogs and the people who love them.

To everyone involved in organising today's event...

You should all be incredibly proud of what you've built.

Events like these strengthen our community and make responsible dog ownership more accessible to everyone.

Today we pause for a solemn reason —
to remember those who went to war,
the ANZACs who landed at Gallipoli in 1915,
and the thousands who never came home.

They were young, they were brave,
and they stood for something greater than themselves.
From Australia and New Zealand,
over 11,000 lives were lost in that campaign —
a cost that still echoes through generations.

They fought not for glory,
but for duty, for each other,
and for the hope of a better tomorrow.

As the sun sets, and as it rises again,
we honour their sacrifice,
their courage,
and their memory.
