Following in Dad’s Footsteps 🦌

At just 9 years old, Charlie Pinney has taken his first red stag! 🦌

A pretty special moment on the deck - and even more so knowing he’s following in the footsteps of his dad, Marcus Pinney, SCI NZ President.

The next generation of hunters coming through! 👏🏼 What an incredible first stag, Charlie. 🦌

Keep an eye out for his story in the next Safari News Magazine coming out next month :)

Well done, mate!

What an incredible couple of weeks it’s been having Everett Headley over from Montana, USA 🇺🇸🇳🇿

Everett is the Safari Club International’s Guides and Outfitters Liaison

We’ve loved having Everett spend time with our SCI New Zealand community, sharing stories, experiences and plenty of conversations around hunting, conservation and the future of our hunting heritage.

A real highlight was having Everett join us for our Night of the Hunter Dinner, where he helped make an already special evening even more memorable.

It’s been fantastic to build connections across the other side of the world and show Everett a little of what our hunting community here in New Zealand is all about.

Thank you, Everett, for spending the last couple of weeks with us — for your friendship, knowledge and passion for hunting and conservation. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed having you here and look forward to continuing the connection between Montana and New Zealand.

Safe travels home, Everett. Until next time! 🦌🤝🇳🇿🇺🇸

Auction #4 Te Awaiti Trophy Free-Range Red Stag and Fallow Buck Hunt

Six-day, fully guided, free-range hunting experience for one hunter
Four individual hunting packages available by separate auction
Estimated value: $8,000 per package

Experience classic New Zealand hunting as it should be: no high fences, completely wild game and thousands of acres of privately owned coastal country.

Te Awaiti Station is located on the south-east coast of New Zealand’s North Island, approximately one hour from Martinborough and two hours from Wellington International Airport. Airport transfers between Wellington and Te Awaiti Station can be arranged.

Each successful bidder will receive a genuine six-day, fair-chase hunt targeting:

- One mature red stag — best available
- One mature fallow buck — best available
- Six nights’ accommodation at Blowhard Lodge
- Meals for the duration of the hunt
- Full guiding and hosting by Gwyn Thurlow, NZDA Chief Executive, and Marcus Pinney, President of SCI New Zealand
- Use of Can-Am Defender ATVs to access the station’s extensive track network and remote hunting areas

Te Awaiti Station covers approximately 20,000 acres of privately owned coastal country. With hundreds of kilometres of tracks, hunters can access a wide variety of terrain across the property.

The station is home to traditional Windsor Park red deer genetics, with mature stags capable of producing antlers of up to approximately 40 inches and 10 to 14 points. Te Awaiti also holds quality fallow bucks, with trophies exceeding 220 Douglas Score achievable.

Hunters will stay at Blowhard Lodge, the station’s dedicated hunting accommodation, located approximately one hour by vehicle from the nearest neighbouring house. This is remote, authentic New Zealand hunting country.

Four individual hunting packages are being auctioned for the same six-day period, creating an excellent opportunity for four friends or family members to bid separately and hunt together.

Successful bidders are responsible for arranging and paying for their travel to Wellington International Airport. Alternatively, hunters may travel by suitable four-wheel-drive vehicle through Martinborough to Te Awaiti Station.

Options may also be available to add meat animals to the hunt by prior arrangement and at additional cost.

This is proper New Zealand roar and rut hunting: wild animals, open country, genuine fair chase.
