Hey folks, I'm co-hosting a photo walk for World Photo Day tomorrow morning. It's another Fujifilm event and fellow Fujifilm photographer Dice Sales will be the other host. We'll be taking in the architecture and street art of the central city and finishing up at C1 for coffee.

It sounds like we have 30 or so people coming and I'd love a couple of dogs to work with. So if you're free tomorrow morning (Sunday 16th) from 9am, drop a comment below with pics of your dog and I'll get some models in for us all to work with.

If you haven't yet got a ticket, this is your sign. Tickets are still available for my 'Story Behind Dogs of the World' class for Fujifilm as part of the New Zealand Photo Show.

Here's a bit about the event...

Join internationally acclaimed photographer and Fujifilm Global X & GFX Ambassador Craig Turner-Bullock for an exclusive morning of storytelling, live demonstrations and behind-the-scenes insights into Dogs of the World. You'll also get hands-on with the latest Fujifilm gear and connect with fellow photographers over morning tea.

Christchurch folks, I'm looking for a to photograph in the C*D tomorrow. I'm working on something with Charlotte Reeves Photography for Unleashed Education and need a model.

Ideally we'd like an all white or all black dog who has a reasonable level of training. A stand and stay/wait is a bonus!

If you're available for a couple of hours from 4pm tomorrow, Sunday 2nd August, comment below with a photo of your dog and a bit about them. We will provide some images as a thank you for your time.

Oh my goodness, what a fabulous way to celebrate the launch of Dogs of the World.

Thank you so much to everyone who came along to Scorpio Books tonight, I hope you enjoyed it. From where I was standing, desperately trying to hide my nerves, it looked like a full house, packed to the back of the store.

I'm so grateful to have seen so many familiar faces, and lots of new ones. It means a lot that you all came out on this freezing winter's evening.

Thank you Scorpio for hosting and a HUGE thank you to my good friend Shar for these gorgeous photos, you rock. 💜

If any Christchurch folks haven't got a copy yet, there are plenty of signed ones at Scorpio now, I've left a stash of bookmarks too! Go see the staff, they're all lovely.

I'm excited to be there again tonight for my Dogs of the World launch.

See you there from 5:30!

Sometimes on a shoot there are moments when I stop thinking like a photographer and just observe, feeling grateful. My Dogs of the World shoot with Hatcher the Alaskan Malamute was one of those times.

High up on Alaska’s Matanuska Glacier, crampons on, after several hours hiking, we arrived at a blue ice cave. Light filtered through the ice like stained glass. The cave was tall and thin, barely enough space to stand, but I knew I wanted Hatcher right in the middle, he was completely at home in this cold, wet realm of ice. Water echoed around us, our voices traveling through the crevices.

The malamute is one of the oldest sled-dog breeds in the Arctic, bred not for speed but for hauling heavy freight over long distances. You can see it in Hatcher: heavy bone, deep chest, sheer presence. But there’s softness too. His mum calls him a badass, and she’s right, but he’s also just a dog who loves the snow and belongs to it completely.

The light was dark and high contrast. This is exactly where I lean on my GFX 50S, the dynamic range let me hold onto that glow in the ice and retain the texture and colour.

In the silhouette image, look closely, there’s a ghostly figure beside Hatcher. An ice sprite, perhaps. I didn’t even notice until a friend pointed it out after I’d edited it!

Hatcher wasn’t performing. He was just being who he is, wild-hearted and completely at home on the ice, and I feel grateful to have shared that moment with him.

Swipe for the full images and a little BTS from the shoot.
