My penultimate shoot for Dogs of the World was at the incredible Shibuya Scramble Crossing in Tokyo, Japan.

My models - three Akita Inu, Awadaikou, Chihiro & Senho.

It was quite something to have these three in this place. A location with an important history with one Akita in particular, Hachikō. There’s a statue of him there, several Akita wall murals, and the New Year screen sowed a silhouette too.

Hachikō’s story is included in Dogs of the World, along with some of Awadaikou, Chihiro & Senho’s own stories.

There’s no AI here, it’s all my photography. I wanted to try and capture the craziness of the location, so I used a light to freeze the dog and a slow shutter speed to capture the commotion.

Swipe through to see some BTS and images that I love, but didn’t quite make the book.

Brisbane friends, Charlotte Reeves Photography and I are heading to the Gold Coast for a workshop and we need dog models!

See details on Charlotte's post.

We need a superstar dog model! 🌟

On Friday 22 May at 6:15am (until 7:30am), we'll be demonstrating how we create variety in a single beach location in under an hour - at the off-leash dog beach at The Spit on the Gold Coast.

This is a demo session at a professional photography conference, with around 30 photographers observing, so we need a very special dog.

We're basically looking for a unicorn in dog form. 🦄

Here's exactly what we need:

🐾 Excellent level of training and obedience with the three D's - distance, duration, and distraction

🐾 Excellent, reliable recall

🐾 Solid off-leash stay

🐾 Highly socialised and not overly interested in other dogs - it's an off-leash beach so there will be other dogs around

🐾 Confident and comfortable around crowds of people

🐾 Medium to large size for visibility in front of a big group

If your dog ticks every single one of those boxes, we'd love to hear from you!

TO APPLY: Drop a comment below with a photo of your dog and tell us exactly why they're the right fit for this. Treat it like a job application - we need all the info please!

What's in it for you?

A professional beach shoot with me (Charlotte Reeves) and my business partner Craig Turner-Bullock (Furtography), plus a gallery of high resolution images from two of the world's leading pet photographers. 📸

And the absolute thrill of being famous for 75 minutes. 😉

Five years ago this week, Charlotte Reeves Photography and I started Unleashed Education.

I haven't talked about it much on here, though you’ve probably seen lots of behind the scenes of workshops in my stories. This has always been the home of Furtography, and that's not changing. But it felt like a good time to properly introduce Unleashed because it’s such a big part of my life.

Unleashed is a global online dog photography education platform. With Charlotte based in Brisbane, I'm here in Christchurch. Between us, we've built a library of courses, a monthly live call programme, and a community of dog photographers from all over the world who are genuinely there to grow together, all focussed on their craft.

If you've ever looked at one of my images and wondered how it was made, Unleashed is where I explain exactly that. Natural light, outdoor locations, real dogs, and the editing work in Lightroom and Photoshop that brings it all together.

Our in-person workshops have taken us to the most epic places, including Iceland, Tasmania, Nova Scotia, and here in New Zealand. We’re heading to Brisbane, London and back to Iceland this year and Ireland in 2027. I absolutely love my role as a pet photography educator, helping others fulfil their dreams has become one of my dreams. I really do believe we are stronger together, uplifting each other, the community and the industry.

The best place to start is the Unleashed Ed app. The community lives inside it, it's free to download, and it's where Charlotte and I show up regularly.

Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kj57426.app&hl=en

Thanks for putting up with me Charlotte and the Unleashed team, and thanks to the fabulous community who trust us to help their journey. Here's to five more years and beyond!

I might spend a lot of time travelling, but Christchurch is home and it’s where most of my clients are too.

I thought I’d share some of my most popular places for photoshoots in Christchurch.

Locations are more than just a pretty spot for me, I like to take you and your dog to places you love to go.

Places that are special so the resulting images will be more meaningful to you.

Places you belong!

Whether it’s the beaches, Port Hills, rivers or city, we’re spoilt for choice! Although these are the most popular spots, there are plenty more and I love exploring new places too!

So tell me, where do you love to go with your dog?

And if you’re keen on heading there for a photoshoot of your own, get in touch!

Ralph & Holly

👉 Swipe for before and after

Most of you will be familiar with Ralph, but did you know his sister Holly had joined our family? She’s been with us over a year now and she’s only been on two photoshoots with me. I think we need to get out together with the camera more often. Holly is on the left in this photo of them.

Here’s a tip for fellow pet photographers... When the owner is in the frame, or you’re working with a dog on lead, which let’s face it, is almost always. Make sure you take a frame with the obstructions removed, like in the second ‘before’ shot.

With Chris out of the way, I could easily merge the second ‘blank frame’ or ‘plate’ to merge seamlessly with the first. This means I don’t have to rely on AI to do any heavy lifting and I don’t suffer poor image quality.

Location: Spencer Park Beach
Shot with: Fujifilm GFX 100s II

It's finally here! Dogs of the World, my 10-year long quest to photograph dogs in locations that mean something to the breed, is here! 🐶 🌎

👉 Swipe for a sneak peek at the book, some of the images and a little behind the scenes.

Containing almost 70 dog breeds, spanning 21 countries and five continents, with 120+ images spread over 240 pages, Dogs of the World is a beast of a book and I hope you'll enjoy going on a new adventure every time you flick through the pages.

I've never worked harder or been more proud of a project I've worked on and I'm so excited for the entire project to finally be unleashed!

I can't thank everyone who supported me through this project enough. Dog owners, everyone who helped me find the dogs, scout locations, assist me on shoots, help organise travel and accommodation, act as emotional support. There are literally hundreds of people who helped bring this to life. Thank you. 🙏

You can currently pre-order a copy via Kickstarter on www.dogsoftheworldbook.com and New Zealanders, it'll be available in local bookstores from June.

And yes, they are all real dogs in real locations, these are not AI generated.

Introducing Dogorama. Your dog. Epic landscapes. One jaw-dropping panoramic art piece.

Inspired by the cinematic magic of Panavision, I created the Dogorama to celebrate your dog in their happiest place. I thought I’d share a few of my favourites, give you a sneaky look at how they’re created and how the final pieces look on the wall.

Posts on social media really don’t show a Dogorama off very well at all, you really need to see them printed BIG on gorgeous metallic acrylic, hanging on the wall as I originally intended. If you want to see samples in person with a view to creating one to celebrate your dog’s legacy, get in touch!

It’s been a while… so a quick reintroduction might be needed! 👋

I’m Craig, self confessed crazy cat daddy, puppy parent and patisserie addict. I have been photographing pets since 2001 (where has that quarter century gone) and work with private and commercial clients all over the world to capture images filled with colour, purrsonality and sparkle!

You will usually find me somewhere between complete chaos and that one split second where everything works and the shutter clicks.

Lately I’ve been a bit quieter on here, taking a break from social media as it is not always the most fun place with everything happening in the world. I think everyone needs to take a break from it sometimes.

I’ve still been out shooting, working on some exciting projects (including a book 👀), and trying to keep up with dogs who absolutely do not care about my plans.

I’ll try to be a bit more present here again… sharing some of the wonder and joys I have seen around the world to add a little brightness to the dark.

Hey folks, Craig here 👋

There are very few places in the world that feel truly magical - Iceland 🇮🇸 is one of them ❄️✨

Check out this video for a small glimpse into what you can expect at the Unleashed Workshop + Retreat taking place in Southern Iceland later this year, and you’ll start to understand why this country has such a hold on me, both personally and creatively.

Epic landscapes. Constantly shifting light. Space to slow down, reconnect with your creativity, and photograph dogs in one of the most extraordinary environments on earth 🐕🌋

There are just a few spots left, and applications are now open.
If Iceland has ever been on your creative bucket list, take a look and see if this feels like your next adventure ✨
