âIs your sunscreen independently lab tested?â
We got asked that 52 times last week. Yes, ours is.
Sunscreens sold in NZ must meet a mandatory standard, including testing. Yet some sellers make sun-protection claims alongside ânot lab testedâ disclaimers, or point to the SPF of a single ingredient as if it proves the finished product. It doesnât. âNaturalâ isnât a substitute for testing.
And there are real reasons people want alternatives. Our check of major NZ retailers found almost 9 in 10 sunscreen listings were overseas brands, with just five international companies making up 63%. At least 84.3% of those companiesâ listings contained one or more of six chemical UV filters found in the bloodstream in a 2020 FDA study. All six exceeded the FDA threshold for extra safety testing after a single use. That showed absorption, not proof of harm.
If youâd prefer a locally made sunscreen without those six filters, you shouldnât have to compromise on verified protection.
So we made ours in Christchurch and had it independently lab tested.
PrimalPantry Tallow Sunscreen. SPF30, broad-spectrum UVA + UVB. Non-nano zinc oxide in a nourishing tallow base with beeswax to help lock in moisture. No chemical UV filters. No added water. NZ-made, and backed by testing.
