🌟 Featured Patient of the Week: Orenoko 🌟
Meet Orenoko, a handsome 12-year-old tabby who recently kept our team on their toes!
Orenoko came to see us after struggling with ongoing tummy troubles, including vomiting, diarrhoea, reduced appetite and weight loss. After a series of investigations, including blood tests and an ultrasound, he was diagnosed with a combination of pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease and a Giardia infection.
Over several weeks, Orenoko spent time in hospital receiving intravenous fluids, pain relief, anti-nausea medications and lots and lots of TLC from our team. When his appetite became a concern, we placed a feeding tube to help provide the nutrition his body needed while he recovered.
Despite a challenging few weeks, Orenoko's bright personality never disappeared. His appetite gradually returned and his tummy settled. One of our favourite updates from his owner was that he had started giving "kisses before meals" again – a sure sign he was feeling more like himself!
We're pleased to say that Orenoko is now back home, enjoying his food, cuddles and creature comforts while continuing his recovery.

🐾 Meet Pippi 🐾

Earlier this week, sweet Pippi came to see us after her owners noticed she wasn’t using her hind leg and was hiding away — very unusual behaviour for her.

We were able to sedate and x-ray her that same morning, where we discovered she had suffered a femoral fracture. Pippi was taken straight into surgery, and we’re happy to say everything went smoothly! 💙

Pippi is insured, and we were able to process her claim through GapOnly on the day of surgery before she went home. This meant her owners didn’t have to worry about paying the full amount upfront or organising paperwork afterwards. Thankfully, insurance covered the majority of the costs, and Pippi was able to head home the very next day.

Best of all, Pippi has been doing incredibly well at her three day post op check and her recovery has been a breeze so far! ✨

We wish Pippi a continued smooth recovery and can’t wait to see her back to her normal self soon 🐱💕

🐾 Featured Patient is Oskar! 🐾

How handsome is this majestic boy! Oskar is a chinchilla breed cat with the smoochiest personality to match his looks.
He came to see us after a trip to the wonderful Afterhours clinic over the long weekend. His owners had noticed him frequently squatting in the litter tray but only passing small amounts of urine — something we take very seriously, especially in male cats. These signs can indicate a urinary blockage, which can quickly become life-threatening if not treated promptly.
When Oskar arrived, he was still blocked, so we acted fast. He was sedated and a urinary catheter was placed to relieve the obstruction. He then stayed with us for a few days for IV fluids, close monitoring of his urine output, and plenty of TLC from the team 💙
The good news - Oskar is now back home with his humans and well on the road to recovery! He’s been started on a special urinary diet, and we’ll continue to monitor him closely to help prevent this from happening again.
We’re so pleased with his progress and very glad he got the care he needed when he did 🐱

UPDATE: We have found the owner. Thank you for everyone who helped us make contact with them.

We are very sorry to share that a deceased small black female poodle was brought into us this morning.

She is not microchipped and was found on Hayton Road.

🌟 Featured Patient: Pax 🌟

It’s not easy xraying a horse….. Or Pax!

Pax, our loveable Irish Wolfhound who recently had his first birthday party with us, came in for some extra long radiographs🐾
Pax has FCE (Fibrocartilaginous Embolism) — essentially a spinal stroke. At the start of his journey, he was unable to move without the support of his incredible owner. Thanks to weekly physiotherapy, swimming, and amazing at-home care, Pax has made huge improvements, gaining strength each week and now walking unassisted. 💪✨
This week’s goal was to X-ray Pax’s limbs to assess any changes and help us make informed decisions about his future physio and treatment plan. Pax absolutely crushed it — not only being a fantastic patient, but also giving the team a bit of a workout along the way! 😄

We’re so proud of you, Pax 🖤
