The Science of the Scratch: Why Beef Can Make Dogs Itch

If your dog won’t stop licking their paws or scratching their ears, the culprit might be their food bowl.
Certain clinical studies show that animal proteins are a real trigger in different dog diets, and beef is the #1 food allergen in dogs, causing roughly 34% of cases.

How a Beef Allergy Develops
Overexposure: Food allergies require time to develop. Because beef is widely used in commercial diets, dogs often eat it for months or years.
Overreaction: Over time, the immune system mistakenly flags beef protein chains as dangerous invaders.
When The Skin Flare: The body releases histamines to fight the protein. In dogs, these histamines travel straight to the skin, causing year-round itching, raw paws, and chronic ear infections.

To stop the constant irritation for your dog, you have to change the protein structure.

Including parts of North and South Canterbury, Kaikoura, Marlborough, Nelson, Tasman, and most of the West Coast.

One question we get asked is, "Why don't you use tripe?"
