SCHEDULE IS FINISHED! šŸ™Œ

And we’re excited about this one.

The Waikato Horse Championship is back, with the added Pony Waikato Championship. Both start at 1m, with the final on Sunday at 1.10m. Points accumulate across all 3 days.

Plus a special 1.05m class exclusive to TBs, with some seriously good prize money šŸ’°

And then on Sunday we bring you the Star Power 1.45m–1.55m… one that’s sure to bring out the best of our top riders as they get set for the first World Cup, just two weeks later.

Some great classes, some big jumping and plenty to look forward to.

Bring it on!!šŸ“šŸ”„

Nobody is perfect!!!

Took me years to get this right… but the sooner you do, the easier it will be to ā€œturnā€ your horse.

Fascinating story about Derby classes…

Truck tyres!! If you need tyres sorted, go see Will at convoytyrenz. He did a bloody good job and was easy as to deal with. Good to see young guys putting in the mahi and doing things properly šŸ‘Œ

He does wheel alignments for trucks too, which are harder to get done than you’d think. If you’re getting tyres done, get the alignment sorted at the same time. Saves chewing through new tyres for no reason.

PSA for the truck-driving followers…

If you haven’t had your tyres checked in the last 5 years, stop putting it off. Learned that one the hard way after another blowout 😬

Ended up swapping the whole lot, and 2 of them were from 2003! FFS šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø Didn’t look too bad from the outside.

That’s the trap when the truck doesn’t get used heaps. Tyres age out before they wear out.

Don’t wait till you’re stuck on the side of the road… go get them checked šŸ‘

There is nothing more powerful than a rider who simply refuses to stop improving.

I’m lucky enough to regularly coach at my local adult riding club, and honestly, the riders there inspire me no end.

These are people riding purely for the love of the sport. No big agendas. No pressure. Just a genuine desire to get better and a willingness to be taught. That combination is pretty special.

The club has created something that really works. One group lesson every week, plus another weekend session every fortnight. Nothing fancy, just consistent, structured coaching.

And the results speak for themselves.

When these riders head out to winter showjumping days, show hunter rings, or even dressage competitions, they stand out. Not because I’ve suddenly become some sort of miracle worker, if only šŸ˜…, but because of the power of consistency and those small, incremental improvements that add up over time.

Most of these riders are 50 plus, with a few younger ones keeping them honest, and the resilience and quiet bravery they show is something pretty special. They put themselves out there, they try, they wobble, they succeed, and sometimes they run out of bravery.

And that’s okay.

Because what they do so well is recognise when to take a step back, reset, and then keep moving forward again.

That’s where the real progress happens.

If I’m honest, coaching riders like this feeds back into me just as much as it does them. They remind me to keep showing up, to keep trying, and to keep going when things feel hard, especially when it’s easy to fall into the trap of comparison or frustration.

They bring me back to why we do this in the first place.

For the love of the horse.
For the love of the sport.
For the simple satisfaction of getting a little bit better.

Long live the amateur rider.
