Colourful Caninies New Zealand or "CCNZ" is our locally run dog business based in Cambridge. We offer a wide range of services but focus on Dog Training & Pack Walks predominantly. Pack Walks
Our off lead walks are held at the 200 hectare farm we live on in Whitehall & our on lead walks are held at various bushland/reserve/park/urban locations around Waipa. We pick up & drop off dogs in Newstead, South Hamilton, Tamahere, Matangi, Pukemore, Te Miro, Karapiro, Ohaupo, Cambridge & Whitehall areas for our popular off lead Pack Walks & on lead Pack Walks. These unique walks aim to enrich your dogs life with an opportunity to explore sights, smells, environments & pack social interaction they won't find anywhere else. Our off lead walks are for dogs who have mental or physical energy to burn, are reliable off lead & have a good ability to listen and stay engaged. Our on lead walks are for those dogs who are not quite at off lead level yet, or who need a more relaxed walk focused more on calm socialisation & sniffing their environment, while being ideal for dogs who have yet to learn how to walk well on the lead and stay engaged. A completed canine questionnaire is required prior to enrolment. Dog Training
We offer private behavioural training at your home, out with you on a walk/at a public location & at our hired training facility in Cambridge. These sessions cover everything including puppies, pulling on the lead, barking, destructive behaviours, over-excitement, anti-social & aggressive behaviours, reactivity, basic obedience, building engagement & many more. We run group classes at our hired facility that are designed to help you & your dog build confidence in each other through both positive & balanced training methods & always explain the 'why' so our owners have strong comprehension. We draw information from university learnings, updated research & daily hands-on experience to assess your dog, diagnose the issue, find the cause & help you on a path to success. Welcome to the pack!

🐕 Owner Coaching: Tilly 🖤

Today was my second session working with Tilly & her family, we decided to go out and have a walk around the lake!

Today’s session we worked on:
🦆 Impulse control
🦆 Neutrality towards people
🦆 Leaving ducks/birds alone
🦆 Reducing excitement around other dogs
🦆 How to handle an offlead dog approaching
🦆 Long line skills
🦆 Long line recall
🦆 Heel work
🦆 Implementing a limited slip collar
🦆 Tightening up cues and reward sequences
🦆 Reducing fear of strangers

Love working with Tilly & her family, hope to hear from them soon for some pack walks or homestays in the near future!

🐕 Owner Coaching: Scout 🌸

Yesterdays owner coaching sessions main goals were to:
🐾 Reduce at-home reactivity
🐾 Understand & layer a premium-grade bark collar into training
🐾 Utilise flirt poles & long lines
🐾 Train & fulfill more
🐾 Hold stronger boundaries
🐾 Decrease separation anxiety
🐾 Create a stronger positive association & relaxing atmosphere in her high quality dog run
🐾 Clarify communication & repeat commands less
🐾 Fairly use correction as well as reward

Scout is a weekly pack walk regular so we already help implement a lot of the above goals. Now it’s her lovely owners turn to follow suit! 👍

🌸 Muzzles 🌸

We’ve been working on training Sam to comfortably wear her new Delta Canine Training Products custom sized muzzle (in pretty pink ofc! 💕)

Sammy’s
🌸Well socialised
🌸A Pack Walk Pro
🌸Masterfully obedient
🌸Behaviourally trained

We are just wanting to layer a thoughtfully crafted muzzle into her daily training that still allows:
•Fetch with a muzzle toy
•Treats to be delivered
•Wide open mouth heavy panting/cooling down
•Pack Walks & Adventures

While managing her low tolerance with young/excitable/overly friendly dogs. Which gives us less need to correct her, and more cause to reward her! We love Sammy & all her quirks 😍

We are always working on building her tolerance and reducing her want to “police” dogs for “naughty” behaviours, but sometimes muzzles can be a less aversive/negative way to manage behaviours. Sometimes stigma/preconceived ideas associated with a tool are better tested than trusted. Whether it’s E Collars, Muzzles, Slip Leads, Harnesses, Treats, Long Lines - don’t knock it before you’ve tried it 😉

We are slowly teaching Sam “We don’t need backup darling - just go and enjoy your pack walk” 🥰

It also gives us the opportunity to build up our knowledge and understanding experience applying muzzle training to dogs who might benefit from it, and allow us the chance to look at taking on dogs who otherwise may not be suited to Pack Walks 🐾

Sammy won’t always wear a muzzle, just the days she’s feeling a little extra spicy 🌶️ 😈

🐕 Owner Coaching: Blu 🖤

Today was my 2nd session with Ziggy & Blu’s owners, at the RDA this time! Today’s focus ended up being primarily on young Blu - who is overflowing with energy & curiosity about all the sights and smells the world has to offer! Ziggy on the other hand just comes for the free possyum buffett ! 🥩

Today’s session was centred around:
•Leash skills
•Loose leash walking
•Implementing our learning ladder steps
•Getting successful reps completed
•Getting out of our comfort zone
•Pushing through challenges rather than avoiding them
•Dog social etiquette
•Engagement
•Owner & dog being patient & not panicking
•Reactivity & Neutrality
•Using pressure & reward effectively
•Allowing Blu thinking time between corrections

Next month we’ll finish off with a Walk & Train session in Hamilton outside of a dog park! Good fun ahead! 😜
