🐱 It's Urine Month! 🐱

This month we're running a special promotion on preventative urinalysis screening for cats.

As we head into winter, many cats may:
❄️ Spend less time outside toileting
💧 Drink less water
🏠 Experience stress from changes at home, such as moving house, a new baby, or a new pet

These factors can contribute to urinary tract issues, which are often easier and less costly to manage when detected early.

To help get ahead of potential problems, we're offering a Consultation & Urinalysis Package for just $90.

How it works:
1️⃣ Pick up a urine collection litter kit from us the day before your appointment.
2️⃣ Pay the $90 promo fee when you collect the kit.
3️⃣ Bring your cat and the urine sample to your appointment the following day.
4️⃣ We'll perform a urinalysis and discuss the results during your consultation.

Early detection can make a big difference to your cat's health and wellbeing.

Every year we work alongside Wanganui Veterinary Services to teat seal a number of their grazing heifers before drying off.

Teat sealing is an important part of dairy heifer health management, helping to prevent bacteria from entering the teat before the heifers calve. This reduces the risk of mastitis for their first calving season and in turn makes it a nicer experience for them and the farmer.

It’s a busy time of year for our team, with long days and plenty of heifers to get through, but it’s always rewarding working together to support animal health and welfare across the region.

Big thanks to the team at Whanganui Vet Services for having us on board again this season!

Why Are Professional Dental Cleans So Important?

Even with the best home care routine, plaque and tartar can still build up below the gumline where brushing and dental products can’t reach. That’s where professional dental cleans play a vital role in your pet’s health.

A professional dental procedure allows us to:
Remove plaque and tartar safely
Clean below the gumline where disease often starts
Assess every tooth thoroughly
Take dental X-rays to check for hidden problems beneath the surface
Help prevent pain, infection, and tooth loss

Did you know many dental issues in pets are hidden below the gumline and can’t be seen during a normal examination? Dental X-rays help us identify painful problems early - often before pets show obvious signs.

Common signs your pet may need a dental check include:
Bad breath
Yellow or brown tartar build-up
Red or bleeding gums
Difficulty eating or chewing
Dropping food or chewing on one side
Pawing at the mouth

Regular professional cleans help keep your pet comfortable, healthy, and pain-free - because pets deserve healthy smiles too

Dental Month Specials at SRVS this May:
50% OFF dental consult fees with Scale & Polish + X-rays
10% OFF extractions* (valid within 6 months)
Plus giveaways to be won!

Did you know dental disease is one of the most common health issues in pets?

Regular home care can help reduce plaque, freshen breath, and support healthier gums between professional dental cleanings.
Here are some of our favourite products to help keep those tails wagging and smiles shining:

Toothpaste & Toothbrushes
Daily brushing is still the gold standard for preventing dental disease in pets. Always use pet-safe toothpaste - never human toothpaste.

Royal Canin Dental
Specially designed kibble that helps reduce plaque and tartar build-up through a unique brushing action while your pet chews. Great for daily dental maintenance.

Hill’s T/D
A clinically proven dental diet with larger fibre-matrix kibble designed to help clean teeth and support gum health as pets chew.

If none of this is an option, the below can be helpful:

Virbac Aquadent
An easy-to-use water additive that helps freshen breath and support oral hygiene - perfect for pets that won’t tolerate brushing.

PlaqueOff Powder
A simple daily powder added to food that may help reduce plaque, tartar, and bad breath as part of an overall dental care routine.

Virbac Veggiedents
As an added treat, you could also look at Virbac Veggiedents to help support dental health and freshen breath. Remember though - these are treats and should only be given as a treat alongside a balanced dental care routine.

Healthy teeth = happier pets
