We recently had the pleasure of celebrating Dr Kelly Trathen and a very special chapter as she set off on maternity leave 🤍

Kelly is such an important part of our team, and the clinic certainly feels different without our very own “KAT 🐱”— we miss her more than she knows and are already counting down the days until she returns.

We are even more delighted to share that baby has since arrived safely. Congratulations to Kelly, Jake, and their beautiful new addition — no doubt the furry kids are absolutely smitten 🩷

We’re sending all our love and cannot wait to meet the newest member of the SVC family ✨

Parvovirus -Blenheim

A case of canine parvovirus has been confirmed in Blenheim in an unvaccinated 6 month old dog.

Parvovirus is a highly contagious and potentially fatal virus that spreads easily through contact with infected dogs or contaminated environments. Puppies and unvaccinated dogs are especially at risk once they've tested positive because there is no cure, only supportive care and time.

What you can do to protect your dog:

Ensure your dog's vaccinations are up to date.

Avoid taking unvaccinated puppies to public areas.

Practice good hygiene (clean shoes, wash hands after handling other dogs)

Seek veterinary advice if your dog shows signs like vomiting, diarrhoea (especially if bloody), lethargy, and loss of appetite.

If you're unsure about your dog's vaccination status, contact their vet clinic.

Let's work together to keep our pets safe.

Post Anaesthetic Feels 😵‍💫🤪

When pets wake up from general anaesthesia or sedation, it’s very normal for them to feel a little strange. They may be sleepy, wobbly, nauseous, or just not quite themselves while the medications leave their system. These drugs can also make it harder for pets to regulate their body temperature! 🌡️💊

That’s why a warm, calm and safe space to rest is one of the best ways to help the body recover and focus on healing. ❤️‍🩹

Jet has since recovered beautifully from her spay surgery and is back out showing off those pearly whites! ✨

UPDATE: Brian has now found a loving home 🧡🧡

Brian the Lion is on the lookout for his forever home!! 🦁

Brian was brought into SVC by a caring member of the public after being found injured and all alone on a country road, after (presumably) being hit by a car. The team at SVC have worked hard to nurse Brian back to health and he is learning the ropes of domestic life day by day.

Brian suffered from a fracture in one of his front legs from the incident and has made a tremendous recovery, achieving all his milestones and looking good while doing it!! 🐱

Due to this fracture there is the possibility of arthritis developing in the future and little Brian may require the help of supplements. But apart from that, he’s just a wee ginger fella on the lookout for a home 🏠

There is an adoption fee of $250.00. This goes towards his care received so far, as well as castration, parasite control, microchipping, registration on the national database AND both initial vaccinations (he’s a pretty good deal 🥰🥰 )

Apart from a few short holidays with staff, Brian hasn’t lived in a home or had a family of his own - but he so desperately deserves it 🧡 Although he’s a little shy and may take a little to warm up to you; once he does - his motor doesn’t stop!!

Want to know more about Brian??
Ask the team!! 🐱🐱

The last 2 photos in the slide are from Brian’s first few days here at SVC, he was terrified but SO brave. He’s really done the hard yards and would love a home to call his own 🧡
