Ten weeks old and already figuring out the world. 🌿🐾Meet Chai, our newest yellow Lab puppy, who has just started her journey with her puppy raiser and is taking everything in her stride β€” including, apparently, the indoor plant collection. At this age it's all about new experiences, new environments and new smells, and Chai is approaching all of it with exactly the calm curiosity we love to see in a future Mobility Dog.Watch this space, this girl is just getting started. πŸ’š

Not every Mobility Dog ends up where you expect β€” and sometimes that's the most wonderful thing of all.

Tui is a black Lab who began her life with us here at Mobility Dogs. But her path led somewhere a little different β€” to MPI, where she's been trained as a biosecurity detector dog keeping New Zealand's borders safe.

So much of the credit for who Tui is today goes to her puppy raiser, Andrea, from Dunedin. The calm, confident foundation Andrea built in those early months made everything that followed possible. πŸ’š

After just two weeks paired with her new handler Wendy, Tui found her first item during training β€” validating in record time and proving she had everything it takes to do this job for real.

And then came the banana. 🍌

Out in the field at the airport, Tui made her first live biosecurity find β€” intercepting a banana before it could cause harm. It's the first time a Mobility Dogs graduate has achieved this with MPI β€” and we think that deserves a moment.

Different cape, same superdog. We are so proud of you, Tui β€” and of everyone who helped shape her along the way. πŸΎπŸ’š

Look at this lot β€” and we've got a lot of shouting to do. πŸ“£πŸΎ
June is The Big Shout Out, a whole month dedicated to celebrating volunteers across Aotearoa, and this photo says it all. Six volunteers, five dogs in training, and enough dedication in one frame to make your heart very full indeed. To every puppy raiser and supporter who shows up week after week giving their time and love to Mobility Dogs β€” this month is for you. You are the reason these dogs get the start in life they deserve.
Kia ora rawa atu. We are so proud to have you in our corner. πŸ’šπŸ§‘

Most of us are treating ourselves this King's Birthday Monday. Keri and Sonny, however, are treating themselves to absolutely nothing β€” by choice. πŸ‘‘πŸΎπŸΎ

That is their names spelled out in kibble, right there in front of them, and not a single piece has been touched. The self-control in this household is frankly embarrassing the rest of us. Happy public holiday from these two ridiculously well-behaved Mobility Dogs in training β€” we hope your Monday involved slightly more snacks than theirs. πŸ’š

If Jimmy's long weekend plans look better than yours, that's because they probably are. πŸ’€πŸΎπŸ‘‘
A week of hard work, new environments and training outings deserves exactly this β€” a sunny spot, a good long snooze, and absolutely nothing else on the agenda. Happy King's Birthday weekend from our very switched-off golden boy and all of us at Mobility Dogs. πŸ’š

One of the things that surprises people most about Mobility Dogs is just how much they can do around the home. Opening doors is one skill, but our dogs are also trained to tackle drawers, fridges, ranch sliders and cupboards β€” all using a tug rope, and all giving their future partner a level of independence that's hard to put into words. Sonny is getting to grips with it here, and from the look of things, he's going to be very good at it indeed. πŸšͺπŸΎπŸ’š

Between all the focus and the learning, one of the most important things a Mobility Dog needs is the ability to completely switch off β€” to settle wherever they are, relaxed and unbothered by the people and activity around them. Keri has absolutely cracked this, as you can see from those very expressive paws. Libraries, it turns out, suit him perfectly. πŸ“šπŸΎπŸ’š

Watch this boy work. πŸΎπŸ’›
That's Sonny β€” one year and eight months old, walking calmly alongside a power chair in the supermarket, carrying like a pro, completely unbothered by the world around him. He is, in every sense of the word, ready.
After months of training, Sonny is about to be placed with his partner β€” someone who has shared their life with a Mobility Dog before, and who knows just how transformative that bond can be. Sonny is their succession dog, and we couldn't think of a better match.
His trainer wrote these words in a letter to his future partner, and they say everything:
"He is a special boy for his young age. He's incredibly mature, calm, and responsive, and he has shown all the qualities we look for in a future service dog."
To place a dog this young, this settled, this ready β€” it doesn't happen often. Sonny is exceptional, and we have loved every moment of watching him grow.
Go well, Sonny. You are going to be everything and more. πŸ’šπŸΎ

This is what balance looks like. πŸŒ…πŸΎ
Jimmy is learning to be a Mobility Dog β€” and that means busy days, new environments, and a whole lot of focus. But it also means moments like this. A wide open beach, a glowing sky, and all the freedom in the world.
Happy dogs make the best partners. And Jimmy looks very happy indeed. πŸ’š

Even the most dedicated dogs deserve a moment of pure joy. πŸ‚πŸΎ
Mr Darby has discovered autumn leaves and is living his absolute best life. We think he's earned it.
Every Mobility Dog works incredibly hard β€” and moments like this remind us that the happiest dogs make the best partners. Roll on, Darby. πŸ’š
