Oh, the weather is chilly, the winter wind blows, And it’s freezing your fingers and numbing your toes! But do not despair, do not shiver or sob, Just hurry on down to the Kumeu SPCA Op Shop!

We have jackets! Oh, yes! We have jackets galore! Stacked up on the racks and filled right by the door. We have so many jackets of every degree, More jackets than fish in the deep rolling sea!

We have… Big coats and small coats, Stay-dry-on-a-boat coats. Bright red coats and sleek, fuzzy thread coats!

We have puffers so puffy they look like a cloud, And bright neon parkas to stand out in a crowd. There are blazers for business and denim for play, To keep all those terrible shivers away! We have leather and fleece, we have buttons and zips, Perfect for walks or for quick little trips.

And the best part of all, the most wonderful news? The prices are small—there is nothing to lose! Every jacket you buy helps a pup or a cat, Now what could be finer or kinder than that?

Are you organised, and passionate about helping animals? Then we need YOU! 🙏

SPCA’s annual street appeal, Fill the Bucket, will take place across Aotearoa again this year on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October 2026, and we’re beginning our search for Volunteer Area Coordinators.

Funds raised from this appeal help us continue our vital work to save the lives of thousands of animals each year ❤️ You can join the amazing community of supporters by becoming a Volunteer Area Coordinator in your region. You can do this independently, or join up with a friend and double the fun!

We’re looking for people who can take on a leading role, be a friendly face for the volunteer street collectors, attend a training session beforehand, and commit to the two full days in October. Keen to be a part of the team? 🐱🐶 Email us at [email protected].

📣 Targeted dog desexing programme update! 📣 Earlier this year, SPCA received close to $500,000 from the Lottery Minister’s Discretionary Fund, to deliver a targeted 12-month dog desexing programme across Auckland and Northland.

This programme aims to support the desexing of up to 3,000 dogs in these communities where the numbers of stray and roaming dogs have been at unprecedented levels.

The work is being completed through a combination of SPCA's existing community desexing initiatives, and targeted voucher distribution made available through this Government funding. SPCA is working alongside a growing network of partners to deliver this work, including veterinary clinics and rescue groups, with additional organisations continuing to come on board 🩵

“This programme is about reaching the dogs and communities that need support the most,” says SPCA Chief Scientific Officer Dr Arnja Dale. "By getting the vet clinics to issue vouchers, it means community members are building relationships with their local vets too."

Since the programme began, 219 dogs have already been desexed, preventing an estimated 548 unwanted puppies from being born 🙏

Got a little extra land? Perhaps you live on a farm or a lifestyle block, or know someone who does? SPCA needs foster homes for farm animals! 🐎🐏

We can't emphasise enough just how important our foster homes are 🙏 Whether the animals need space to grow and gain strength, or recover from neglect or mistreatment, having a safe foster home is a key part in their journey to adoption.

Anita is one of our treasured farm fosterers.

"I love animals, and we have plenty of space since moving to a lifestyle block in South Auckland," Anita says. "When I realised we could help out by fostering, I decided to sign up.

"At this stage we had four alpaca of our own. I fostered Cosworth the alpaca, and he needed meds to help him with some of his ailments. It was so lovely to see his health improve.

"I totally recommend fostering. The SPCA team are there to support you if you have any questions or concerns, and they check in regularly." 🩵

It’s not just dogs and cats that need foster homes – but farm animals too! 🐐🐖🐎

Animals like goats, horses, pigs, and chickens often have the have the hardest time finding foster homes, as it requires a loving fosterer with the knowledge and the space to care for them while they wait for their forever homes 🩵

Christiane is one of our much-appreciated farm fosters, who was inspired by her love of animals to get involved.

"I enjoy meeting the new animals and gaining their trust, offering them a warm, safe environment and then meeting the lovely new family once they've been adopted," she says. "My most memorable fosters would be Maple, the three-legged goat - and 'Stinky Pete', the big gentle giant!"

Christiane's message to anyone considering fostering? "Give it a go! Fostering frees up space at SPCA so they can help more animals. There is no financial cost to you and it's extremely rewarding." 🙏
