Go Racing With Us | SATURDAY

It’s officially spring and racing in New Zealand is ramping up with the first Group One of the new season taking place at Ellerslie tomorrow.

We have five runners across three countries this weekend, including Miss Janet – who looks like she does CrossFit for breakfast – and our Spanish matador Soul Of Spain running in Group races.

▪SWEET BABY ZOU 🍬, Down Royal (IRE), Race 6
📝 Saturday morning (NZ Time) SWEET BABY ZOU 🍬 is running with Julian Pietropaolo in the saddle. She finished a good third last start and conditions are in her favour tomorrow, she’s drawn six, and she will appreciated the step up to 2144m. She should be right in the finish.

▪LOS SALSERO,🕺 Ellerslie (NZ), Race 3
📝LOS SALSERO 🕺 has been racing in good form, this looks a nice race for him, he’ll appreciated the step up to 2200m and he should be able to settle midfield with cover and ready to strike at the right time. Jack Taplin rides.

▪MISS JANET 🏋️‍♀️, Ellerslie (NZ) Race 7
📝 MISS JANET 🏋️‍♀️ didn’t handle the heavy track when resuming at Taupō last start. We’re looking for her to bounce back in the $150,000 Gr.3 Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Sunline Vase (1200m). It’s a good field of 3YO fillies and she’s drawn awkwardly, barrier 6 (of 10), however she’s one-from-one at Ellerslie, she worked well on the course proper last week and the better track will suit. Great to have Michael McNab sticking with her for this race.

▪SOUL OF SPAIN 🇪🇸, (Royal Randwick (AUS) Race 9
📝 Our Spanish matador SOUL OF SPAIN 🇪🇸 takes aim at the A$300,000 Gr.2 Asahi Super Dry Chelmsford Stakes on Saturday. We have high aspirations for him this season – including The Melbourne Cup. The 1600m is likely to be a bit sharp for him and he’s up against horses proven at this distance. If he was to settle in the running and do best work over the final stages of the race, we will be happy. He will begin from barrier 6 (of 9) with Zac Lloyd to ride.

🛬 🇩🇪 Albert, Melissa and Stuart have touched down in Germany for the Baden-Badener Auktionsgesellschaft e.V. (BBAG) Premier Yearling Sale. They've been doing the hard yards, inspecting the catalogue ahead of the sale tomorrow. We can't wait to see what they pick up, hopefully the next Nobler!

The Marsh Racing 4YO mare had a quiet trial at Taupō earlier this month and we’re pleased to report she’s come back in superb order. 📰: Marsh hunting further Guineas honours

Go Racing filly So Fear showed plenty of promise as a juvenile, winning her first two starts before placing in the Listed Star Way Stakes (1200m) behind stablemate Miss Janet, while Perfect Chaos has yet to finish outside the money in her four starts to date, and Marsh intends to keep that record intact this weekend.

▪️SO FEAR - Whanganui, Race 5
📝 So Fear was a revelation throughout her 2yo career and we are very excited to see what she can do this season. She kicks off her new campaign tomorrow in the $80,000 Listed Whanganui Guineas over 1200m. She had a nice trial at Avondale against some older horses in preparation for this, it looks a good opportunity for her to pick up some early black type. She’s drawn barrier 2 & will be ridden by regular jockey Courtney Barnes.

▪️LEADLIGHT - Navan, Ireland - Race 4
📝 Early Friday morning NZ time we have our 2 year old c**t Leadlight running over 1627m. This will be his 3rd career start & he currently sits as a very short priced favorite. Top Irish jockey Dylan Browne McMonagle takes the reins from an inside barrier, he should get every chance in the straight.

▪️CONFECTIONIST, Cambridge - Race 4
📝 Back to her favorite surface at Cambridge synthetic, she races in the rating 80 over 1300m tomorrow. Up in grade, but she has been racing well and is capable of bouncing back after a luckless last start. Michael McNab sticks with her.
