There is no way we could do what we do without you. The long hours, late nights, early mornings and everything in between. You’re there, you’re ready, and you give your absolute everything to our patients, both in the hospital and out in the field.

Your endless dedication, care and compassion never go unnoticed. We are incredibly grateful for each and every one of you beautiful ladies and everything you bring to our team.

Shy of a year old, young Halo from Rodney Animal Rescue has already gathered quite the social media following because boy is she cute!!! This fluffy orphan had a rough start in life and spent some time with us earlier in the year. This week she honoured us with a visit to have her hernia surgery.

Before birth the foal receives its nutrition from its mum through the umbilical cord which passes through a small opening in the abdominal muscles. This opening usually closes up leaving a small scar which is the belly button. In some cases a small opening in the abdominal muscles remains and some tissue may protrude out. Very small hernia's mostly contain fat and are just a cosmetic blemish larger openings can trap intestine and can cause life threatening colic.

Some hernias can resolve all by themselves in the first months of life. Small hernias may be closed by a ring placed by your vet in the field. In Halo's case her hernia was the size of a mango with the defect in the body wall of about 8 cm. These need to be closed in surgery. Halo tolerated the procedure well and she is very pleased about her new bikini body.

Hernia repair day for little miss Halo today 😇❤️‍🩹

Wow where are the days and weeks going!
I can't keep up!

Today we took Halo to Veterinary Associates Equine for her to get ready for her hernia repair surgery tomorrow

Of course she got stuck in to the hay! 😎

Her worm count is under control and her pre op blood work is looking good for surgery 🥳

We need her to have her surgery to help her with her digestive system and to try help her get her gut working where we get a consistency of formed p**p 💩

Please help us pay for Halo and her much needed hernia repair surgery 🙏

It’s fantastic to see Felicity featured alongside her husband Tristan and their work developing HorseSafe. An innovative way of monitoring horses and picking up changes in their behaviour that could indicate something isn’t quite right.

We always feel honored when Rodney Animal Rescue chooses our team to look after their horses! Maeve and her beautiful filly unfortunately needed a visit to the Vet Associates Equine Hospital over the weekend after some initial care by our amazing vet Kaylin. They both responded well to treatment and were able to head home on Sunday. Miss Maeve seemed to enjoy her spa time while at the hospital - what new mum wouldn't?

This past weekend we discharged and bid farewell to our lovely hospital patient Dora, who during her stay won over the hearts of the entire team.

Dora was initially seen by Franklin Vets for colic and was referred into our hospital later the same day after her symptoms failed to improve. After further diagnostics it was determined that surgery was the best option to get this big girl comfortable again.

Surgery was a success and she was quickly back to her normal self. Unfortunately she developed an incisional site infection which extended her stay but she remained the perfect patient during her daily treatments. She was appropriately rewarded with two of her favourite things, b***y scratches and daily hand grazes.

We are very grateful to Dora’s owners for trusting us with the care of their special girl and we wish them all the best as she continues her recovery.❤️‍🩹
