🐾🌸 Easter Hours & Pet Safety Reminder 🌸🐾

We’re all taking a well-deserved break over Easter 🐣

Our clinic will be closed from Thursday 2nd April at 5pm and will reopen on Tuesday 7th April at 8am.

Easter is a wonderful time for family and sweet treats, but please remember to keep these safely out of reach of your pets. What’s tasty for us can be dangerous — even life-threatening — for them.

⚠️ Common Easter treats that are toxic to pets include:
• Chocolate
• Lollies containing xylitol
• Hot cross buns
• Raisins, currants, and sultanas

If your pet consumes any of these, or if you have an emergency, please contact your nearest emergency vet clinic immediately.

💊 If you require a prescription before the long weekend, please allow at least 48 hours’ notice.

Wishing you and your fur babies a safe and happy Easter! 💛🐾

🐾💙 Bronson – A Cautionary Tale on the Importance of Cytology 💙🐾

Bronson, an 8-year-old Shih Tzu, was recently adopted by his owner, who noticed two very small but consistently changing patches on Bronson’s left side. They could easily have been dismissed as harmless skin tags, but the decision was made to test them both with cytology — just to be safe.

Lucky we did.

Both lumps were identified as Mast Cell Tumours. Bronson then underwent surgery to remove both masses, which were sent away for histology. The results confirmed grade 1–2 Mast Cell Tumours with clean margins, which is great news. With complete surgical removal, there is less than a 10% chance of recurrence, meaning surgery is considered curative in most cases.

Mast Cell Tumours are one of the most common skin tumours in dogs and can be very variable in appearance. They may look like:
• Small lumps or bumps on the skin
• Skin tags or warty growths
• Red or inflamed patches
• Lumps that change size or appearance over time

Because they can look so harmless, it’s always best to check any new lump or bump. A simple needle sample (cytology) can often give us answers quickly.

Well done to Bronson for being such a brave boy through it all, and a big well done to his eagle-eyed Dad for noticing the changes early. Early detection truly makes all the difference 💙🐶🐾

🐾✨ Bringing Advanced Surgical Expertise to Our Clinic ✨🐾

Another key area of veterinary care in which we have developed a valued collaboration is advanced surgery.

Surgical procedures in the veterinary field have progressed significantly in recent years, leading to greatly improved long-term outcomes for patients. However, surgery is a broad and highly specialised discipline that requires additional training, refined technique, and extensive experience to consistently achieve excellent results.

We are proud to work alongside Dr Boet Vermeulen, a mobile veterinary surgeon with a special interest in advanced orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery. With over 10 years of experience and access to a wide range of modern surgical equipment, he brings advanced surgical expertise directly to our clinic.

🩺 Examples of advanced procedures offered in-house include:
• Cruciate ligament repair (including TPLO)
• Fracture repairs and orthopaedic plating
• Patella (kneecap) surgery
• Complex soft tissue procedures

This collaboration enables us to provide advanced surgical services in a familiar, low-stress environment, while maintaining continuity of care and offering these procedures at affordable prices.

We’re proud to partner with Dr Boet to ensure the very best surgical outcomes for our patients 💙🐾
