🐶How to Perform a "Flip the Lip" Dental Exam🐶

Dental disease is one of the most common medical problem in pets.
Few pets show obvious signs of dental disease, so it is up to the pet parents and veterinarian to uncover this hidden and often painful condition.

🐾 Pick a calm moment: Choose a time when your pet is relaxed, not during high-energy play or meal times.
🐾 Roll the lips back: Use your thumb and index finger to lift the upper lip upward and drop the lower lip downward.
🐾 Examine the molars: Pull the corners of the lips back toward the ears to fully expose the large back premolars and molars.
🐾 Check both sides: Spend just 5 to 10 seconds on one side, reward your pet, and then check the other side.

🙀Red Flags That Require a Vet Visit

🐾 Asymmetrical tartar: Heavy buildup on only one side of the mouth (indicates your pet is chewing on one side due to pain).
🐾 Gums that bleed easily: Bleeding when you lightly touch or lift the lip.
🐾 Foul odor: A strong, pungent smell that goes beyond normal "dog breath" or "cat breath."
🐾 Behavioral shifts: Pawing at the face, dropping dry food, or aggressively pulling away when you touch their muzzle
