Dancer, Blue and Billy recently received a ConTact C.A.R.E flinch lock release session with Vicki Harding. Vicki identified areas of past bone trauma that had created ‘flinch locks’ in the horses and used the method to release these. The boys each displayed some good ‘releases’, which was really interesting to watch. This was a very new experience for Billy in particular, given his young age and the fact that he was only mustered in from the wild a year ago. All three horses were beautifully chilled and relaxed during the session.

Dancer & I had a great weekend away at Ambury Farm taking part in
MindBody Clinic.
As Ellie O’Brian put it, this clinic works from the inside out, utilising mindfulness and personal development to see how what we humans ‘bring’ to our interactions with our horses impacts our relationship with them.
We looked at utilising the MindBody connection to release tension and trauma starting with horse bodywork and connecting on the ‘ground’. It was wonderful to spend quality time with Dancer, with both of us expanding our experiences and having definite ‘releases’ (in Dancers case this manifested in licking, chewing and plenty of yawning).
Dancer bonded quickly with his little travel companion Misty, who was pretty smitten with him by the end of the weekend.
On Sunday morning we took advantage of the Ambury Farm Park trails and went for a stroll.
On the second afternoon we expanded on what we’d explored in the clinic the day before and looked at how the MindBody connection translates when we ride.
This was a great clinic, and a very special weekend to share with Dancer.

We had an incredible day at our Equine Reflections ‘Creating Connections’ workshop yesterday. The group spent the day exploring communication and authentic connection between us and the horses. The day incorporated mindfulness practices to increase body awareness and being present. We had some really special moments of learning and connection throughout the day.

Our two youngest herd members, 4 year old Blue and 1 year old Billy (who was born wild and was only mustered as last year), both spent time laying down throughout the day. Little Teddy the mini was the first to come in to our ‘circle’ at the beginning of the day and introduce himself to everyone in turn. As the day progresses he expressed that he didn’t want to be groomed or touched on his body, but that he wanted to be very close to the group, dosing right next our chairs when we were sitting down and resting his nose against people. Flynn was able to show us clearly and consistently where he wanted to be groomed and how. And Dancer, who is our most experienced Equine Reflections herd member and has been part of many workshops and retreats, showed the group what passive leadership looks like in action.

It was a powerful workshop, that allowed for some real moments of authentic connection and communication between us and the horses.

We are very lucky to have this gorgeous yearling .with.billy and his person join us at our Equine Reflections workshop tomorrow.
Billy was mustered in from the wild a year ago, when he was still a very young foal. He’d somehow got separated from his mother in the muster, and was tiny when he arrived at the stock yards.
He’ll be joining Dancer, Flynn, Blue and Teddy the mini for our workshop tomorrow, as we explore creating authentic connections with ourselves and with the horses.

Whilst we don’t expect to hear our horses talking in words, we are very much looking forward to exploring the way horses communicate with us, each other and their environment at our workshop on Saturday.

We had amazing weather at our last Equine Reflections Spring Retreat. An amazing group of participants spent two days exploring deepening connections between humans and horses, team work, boundaries, trust, communication, reflection time, and living in the present. It was a powerful weekend that bought the group closer together, as well as allowing for some magical moments of real connection between individuals and horses 💚

Yesterday Equine Reflections ran Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) sessions for the young people taking part in the three day kids summer holiday camp.
Through observing and interacting with the horses our sessions explored energy, boundaries, communication, body language and being present and aware of our environment. These were short but powerful sessions which provided hands on experience and tangible learning opportunities for everyone involved.
