Dart's had to take a lot of pills lately after his operation and I learnt from Pippi that hiding them in food was a slippery slope to food refusal.

So, I've been reinforcing him for taking a pill with some yummy chicken. Kind of like eat your veggies and you'll get desert 👌

We started by rewarding kibble with chicken then moved to the actual pills. Sometimes he spits out the really yucky ones but I'd say we are at about 90% success rate of him voluntarily taking his pills.

Eating is a voluntary behaviour so it can be reinforced or punished just like any other behaviour.

Ahh...this dog...I left her in the forest happily burying her catch and now she turns up demanding a bath...like I don't have better stuff to do 🤷🐾🌲

Pleased to report that Dart is recovering really well from his surgery and I can see now that the biggest challenge will be keeping him quiet until he heals 😬

Many of you will have experienced the anxious wait while your dog is in surgery...not fun but the team at NOVA VETS were amazing. Priya, his vet, even came in on her day off to do the operation because it was a risk to leave him much longer 🥰

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes 🙏🐾 and we look forward to resuming normal farm duties soon!

Dart's had a rough few days and after lots of investigation at the vets, turns out he has a rare genetic condition where his testosterone drives the production of crystals in his urine, leaving him very susceptible to blockages. So...after 11 years with them, the testicles have to come off tomorrow! His bladder will also be getting cleaned out of any remaining stones. Here's hoping for a smooth surgery and getting back to bunny chasing as soon as he can 🤞🐾
