🩻 Can You See What We See? 👀

X-rays are one of the most important diagnostic tools we have in veterinary medicine — helping our vets see what’s happening inside our patients 🐾

Our digital X-ray system allows us to quickly capture clear, detailed images that can help diagnose everything from foreign bodies and fractures to GDVs, chest and abdominal conditions, and all sorts of unexpected findings. 🔍🩻

And sometimes, what we see on an X-ray can make a huge difference to what happens next — helping our team decide whether a patient needs surgery, further diagnostics, or a different course of treatment.

🐾 Getting to Know our Team – 🩺

We’re excited to introduce one of our wonderful veterinarians, Dr Kate!

A little about Kate, in her own words:

I graduated from the University of Surrey in 2020 and worked for 3 years as a small animal GP vet in a busy hospital. I took a work sabbatical for 6 months and came to New Zealand only to fall in love with the country. So I went back to England only to pick up my dog and we relocated to Auckland where I have worked at Manukau After Hours ever since. Emergency and critical care is my passion and I love being able to provide care in the middle of the night to worried owners no matter how big or small the concern.
Outside of work I love to travel when I can, and when I can’t you can find me waterskiing, playing squash or hiking with my pup. I have a mini Pomeranian who is about 8 years old and only weighs 1.4kg - she gets lots of fuss out and about and definitely knows how cute she is! Despite her tiny legs she loves to come tramping with me, even up mountains!

Kate is a valued member of our veterinary team, and we’re delighted to share a little more about the person behind the scrubs. We hope you enjoy getting to know her!

🐾🌟 Celebrating the Incredible Work of Guide Dogs 🌟🐾

At Manukau After Hours Veterinary Clinic, we understand that guide dogs are so much more than pets – they are trusted companions, lifelines, and highly trained partners who provide independence and confidence to the people they support every day.

We are proud to care for these remarkable dogs when they need veterinary attention, and we are committed to making their visits as stress-free and positive as possible.

Recently, some of our nursing team were lucky enough to visit Blind Low Vision NZ, where we learned more about the vital role guide dogs play in the lives of New Zealanders who are blind or have low vision. It was an inspiring experience that gave us an even greater appreciation for the dedication, training, and partnership behind every guide dog team.

A huge thank you to Blind Low Vision NZ for welcoming us and sharing your knowledge. We look forward to continuing to support these amazing dogs and the people who rely on them.

Every superhero wears a cape… 🩸🐾
some just happen to have four legs.

When a critically ill patient needs a blood transfusion in the middle of the night, there isn’t always time to wait for blood products to arrive. That’s where our incredible donor dogs come in.

Many of our nurses have generously volunteered their own dogs to help save the lives of patients in need. At a moment’s notice, these furry heroes can be brought into the clinic to donate blood and give another pet a fighting chance.

We’re so grateful to our dedicated team and their amazing dogs who help make life-saving transfusions possible when every minute counts.

Meet Bond 💙

This lovely boy recently came into see us needing urgent surgery after suffering from a twisted stomach (GDV) — a life-threatening condition that requires immediate treatment.

Despite feeling very unwell, Bond was the definition of a gentle giant throughout his stay with us. The nurses completely fell in love with him, and it’s easy to see why 🐾

Thanks to the quick actions of his family and our dedicated veterinary team, Bond underwent emergency surgery and is now on the road to recovery.

We’re so glad you’re feeling better, Bond, and can soon get back to playing with your beloved tennis balls 🎾💙

We only want to see you back here for cuddles and pats — and we’ll happily trade tennis balls for the delicious rocky road you brought the team 🍫🐶
