Rupert’s Rescue 🐈🧡

What started with an AirTag ping turned into a full-blown rescue mission!

When Jordan’s cat Rupert went missing and his AirTag last pinged in Ellerslie, nurses Alex and Jordan jumped into rescue mode. After making sure Rupert wasn’t at home in Parnell, they headed straight to Ellerslie, following the last known location.

The search led them through an underground car park, calling Rupert’s name and shaking treats in the hope he’d answer. After checking one level (and even taking the elevator up to see if anyone could help), they realised there was another underground level they hadn’t searched yet.

After what felt like forever, Jordan’s phone suddenly connected to Rupert’s AirTag… they knew they were close! Moments later came the sweetest little “meow” 🥹

Poor Rupert had tucked himself up inside a car bonnet! Thankfully, someone nearby knew who the owner was, and they were able to get the bonnet opened and rescue our brave little adventurer.

Rupert came straight back to the clinic for a thorough check-up with one of our vets, and we’re so happy to report he was completely unharmed - just a little shaken after his unexpected adventure ❤️

Where Rupert was stuck! 😧

We did a quick check on Rupert to ensure he had no injuries ❤️‍🩹

All wrapped up for the trip back to APH for a vet check 🏥

Exhausted from his big adventure but happy to be home 😴🧡

Could you tell if your pet was struggling to breathe?

Brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome affects animals with brachycephalic skull conformation (‘short-headed’).

This conformation affects their ability to breathe easily. They also experience regurgitation and a low tolerance for exercise.

Signs to look out for -
Noisy eating and/or drinking.
Regurgitation of food.
Excessive respiratory sounds.
Reverse sneezing.
Tires easily from activities.
Poor temperature regulation.
Sleep apnea.

Formal diagnosis is made following a vet check with an examination under general anaesthetic.

Milder cases are sometimes managed with conservative medical management, however in severe cases surgical intervention may be indicated.

Some patients are impossible to forget… and Kato is definitely one of them 🐾💙

Weighing in at an impressive 50.6kg, Kato was the definition of a gentle giant. He came in for his neuter a little while ago and was an absolute superstar from start to finish. The best boy with an even bigger heart! 💙
