PAW’s inception comes from the
American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) in 1981, with aims to raise awareness about overall pet care.

Could you tell if your pet was experiencing pain in their joints?

It’s not just senior pets.
While arthritis is seen more frequently in senior pets, it can affect animals of all ages. The condition involves inflammation in the joints, which is often due to:
- Past injuries or trauma
- Degenerative joint disease (DJD or osteoarthritis)
- Developmental disorders
-Infections

Where does it hurt?
The most commonly affected joints include:
- Shoulders
- Elbows
- Hips
- Knees

Pets just like people can experience arthritis in multiple joints at once, and symptoms tend to worsen over time without intervention.

So what signs can we look for?

1. Reduced Activity.
Think more time sleeping, less interested in play, training, or walks.

You may also notice a reluctance to navigate their space as normal e.g. avoiding stairs, jumping off of beds, and getting in and out of the car.

👀 Curious About Ultrasound?

Ultrasound was first identified way back in 1794, but the use of it for medical diagnostics would not be recorded until the early 1900s.

Therapuetic experiments using ultrasound began in the 1930s, and it remains a valuable diagnostic tool to this day.

⬇️ But what is an ultrasound?
- Ultrasound uses sound waves to create images from the echoes that ‘bounce’ off tissues.

- The sound waves are converted into an image in real time for interpretation.

Sonovet x APH
- We are lucky to have Dr Itsuki Mueller from Sonovet with us on Thursdays.

- Common procedures include abdominal ultrasound, echocardiogram (heart), and ultrasound-guided sample collection.
