Could you tell if your pet was experiencing pain in their joints?
It’s not just senior pets.
While arthritis is seen more frequently in senior pets, it can affect animals of all ages. The condition involves inflammation in the joints, which is often due to:
- Past injuries or trauma
- Degenerative joint disease (DJD or osteoarthritis)
- Developmental disorders
-Infections
Where does it hurt?
The most commonly affected joints include:
- Shoulders
- Elbows
- Hips
- Knees
Pets just like people can experience arthritis in multiple joints at once, and symptoms tend to worsen over time without intervention.
So what signs can we look for?
1. Reduced Activity.
Think more time sleeping, less interested in play, training, or walks.
You may also notice a reluctance to navigate their space as normal e.g. avoiding stairs, jumping off of beds, and getting in and out of the car.
