If you know us you know we've had our own experiences with FIP. Luckily we've got incredible vets who have stayed on top of new research and approaches and saved our girls.
Now baby Womble from Wellington needs saving too. This little guy is a foster from Pōneke Ngeru Rescue and his foster mum is my dearest and oldest friend.
I know it seems odd asking for donations for a different rescue but this little guy means so much to one of the most important people in my life, so he's important to me too.
Their rescue is doing incredible work and if you could spare a few dollars for them both they, and we, would appreciate it.
Xx
I wish I was writing a happier update, but unfortunately our little Womble has suspected FIP, Feline Infectious Peritonitis.
Sadly, we’re no strangers to FIP. Our first case was one of our Berhampore wildies, diagnosed at just 13 weeks old. Her treatment cost over $8,000. She developed neurological FIP and, while she survived, she never fully regained movement in her legs.
We’ve also lost two wildies from the same colony to wet FIP. They deteriorated incredibly fast, and there were likely many more we never even had the chance to find.
Most recently, Celine, a wild girl from Porirua underwent a 12-week treatment course which cost around $3,000, though her illness eventually turned out to be something else entirely.
Up until recently, FIP was considered a death sentence. But over the last five years, we’ve seen two major changes: the disease appears to be becoming more common, and thankfully, treatment has become more accessible.
We’re going to move ahead with treatment for Womble and do everything we can to save him.
We know we’ve had to ask for help a lot lately, and we truly don’t take that lightly. We’ve just been hit with so many major medical costs in such a short time, while adoption fees only cover the absolute basics of care.
Today alone, Jimjim had a dental costing $998 💔
If you think $1 doesn’t make a difference, remember that if every person who interacted with our giveaway post donated just $1, we’d have $10,000!!
If you’d like to help Womble fight this awful disease, we would be endlessly grateful for any support, shares, or kind thoughts.
