Grooming isn't just about looking good, it's an ongoing training exercise for your dog or cat.

Every time your pet is lifted onto a table, has their paws handled or hears clippers running, they're building tolerance and trust. Pets who are groomed regularly from a young age, or eased into it gradually, tend to cope far better than those who only visit occasionally.

A few things that help the learning stick:
Stay with the same groomer where possible, so your pet gets used to a familiar pace and touch. Keeping appointments on a consistent schedule rather than leaving long gaps between visits. Choosing a groomer who works patiently, especially with nervous or older pets.

If your pet is still a bit wriggly or unsure at appointments, that's completely normal. Confidence builds with repetition, not perfection.

My dog Reko had an absolute ball staying with his buddies at Mckenzie Manor over the long weekend , he came home happy, exhausted and a tad dirty so I gave him a bath and a tidy up .

It’s no surprise Reko arrived today looking absolutely immaculate, with his beautiful white coat glistening in the sunshine… after all, his mum is Aunty Am's Dog Grooming .

It also took approximately 30 seconds for Reko to decide that sparkling white wasn’t nearly as much fun as rolling in the dirt and charging through the mud with his friends.

That’s what holidays are for.

Don’t worry, Aunty Am… we’ll happily send him home with a heart full of adventures. And knowing your magic touch, that beautiful white glow will be shining again before we know it. 😉
