🎗️ Cancer treatment in pets has come a long way 🎗️

Meet Jasper 🐾

Jasper is one of our wonderful patients currently receiving ongoing chemotherapy treatment here at East Coast Bays Vet Clinic.

When many people hear the word cancer, they assume there are very few options available for pets. The reality is that veterinary medicine has advanced enormously over the past decade, and many cancers can now be treated or managed to help pets enjoy a good quality of life for longer.

In these photos, Nurse Lea is keeping Jasper company while he receives his chemotherapy treatment through an intravenous drip. Jasper is sedated to ensure he remains comfortable and relaxed throughout the procedure.

One thing that surprises many owners is that pets generally tolerate chemotherapy much better than people do. Our goal isn't to push treatment to the limit — it's to maintain a happy, comfortable quality of life while giving our patients the best chance possible.

The last two pictures show Jasper just a few hours after his chemotherapy treatment. Many owners are surprised to learn that most dogs receiving chemotherapy continue to enjoy their normal routines, walks, cuddles, and favourite treats throughout treatment.

Every cancer journey is different, and while treatment isn't the right choice for every pet, having a diagnosis no longer means there are no options.

A big thank you to Jasper and his family for allowing us to share a small part of his journey. ❤️

If you have concerns about a lump, bump, unexplained weight loss, or any changes in your pet's health, early detection can make a significant difference. Don't hesitate to get in touch with our team.

🚜 Fieldays is here! 🚜

Whether you're heading south to check out the latest tractors, farm tech, livestock, or simply enjoying a day out, don't forget to make a plan for your furry family members before you hit the road.

🐾 Fresh water
🐾 Plenty of food
🐾 A comfy place to relax
🐾 Someone to check in on them if you'll be away for a while

And while you're planning your trip, it's also a great time to make sure your pet's microchip details are up to date. If your adventurous pup decides to go on a Fieldays-inspired expedition of their own, accurate contact details can make all the difference in getting them home quickly.

Of course, if dogs had their own Fieldays itinerary, it would probably look something like this:

🌱 Investigate every new smell
🐄 Watch all the animals
🚜 Inspect every tractor
🍖 Locate the nearest food stand

From all of us at East Coast Bays Vet Clinic, have a fantastic Fieldays week and safe travels! Dobby will see you there 🐶

😸Meet the team............'s pets

We have a special mention today: Quinnie 😁

This little rascal started his life journey being hand fed by one of our nurses here at the clinic. He soon found a loving home to take over with our customer care specialist Ruby!

Some say he is the greatest skink hunter alive ..... not that he has a permit😼

You can always find him cuddling his humans or his support Santa. This little rescue wriggled his way into the hearts of many and is here to stay.

Quinnie would like to remind everyone to have a look at rescues if you are looking to bring a new fluffy member into the family.

Have a great evening everyone, stay warm and stay snug!

🍂🐾 Winter Pet Care Tips for Auckland Pets 🐾🍂

As the temperatures drop and the rainy days roll in, it's important to remember that winter can affect our pets too! Here are 5 simple ways to keep your furry family members happy and healthy this season:

❄️ 1. Keep Moving
It can be tempting to skip walks when it's cold and wet, but regular exercise is just as important in winter. Even shorter walks, indoor games, or enrichment activities can help keep pets physically and mentally healthy.

🦴 2. Watch for Signs of Arthritis
Cold weather can make stiff joints more noticeable. If your pet seems slower to get up, is reluctant to jump, or isn't as keen for walks as they used to be, it may be worth having them checked by your vet.

🐜 3. Don't Stop Flea Prevention
Many people think fleas disappear in winter, but Auckland's mild climate means fleas can be active year-round, especially inside our warm homes.

🐾 4. Dry Those Paws
After muddy walks or rainy adventures, give your pet's paws a quick wipe and dry. This helps prevent irritation and keeps your floors a little cleaner too!

⚖️ 5. Keep an Eye on Weight
Pets often become less active during winter, but their appetite doesn't always get the memo. A few extra treats here and there can quickly add up.

❤️ A little extra care during the colder months can make a big difference to your pet's comfort and wellbeing.

Tell us below: Does your pet love winter walks, or would they rather stay tucked up under a blanket? 🐶🐱👇

🐶Meet the staff.........'s pets🐱

Both staff and customers alike know they are in good paws with our clinic manager Kirsten and her trusty sidekick Dudley🐕‍🦺.

Even the best managers need time to relax and that's where the rest of the furry family comes in. Meet: Winnie, Tipsy, and Sooty🐈‍⬛🐈🐈‍⬛

Have a great evening everyone, just one more day before the weekend🥳🥳

📖 Word of the Day: CUTE 🥰

Cute (adjective): Something so adorable that it instantly makes you smile!

Today's example? Well... we couldn't choose just one! 🐾💕

We were lucky enough to have a visit from Topsy and Turvy, two gorgeous Burmese kittens, as well as Fergus, an adorable Coton de Tulear puppy. Safe to say they had our team completely smitten! ❤️

At East Coast Bays Veterinary Clinic, we're lucky enough to meet cute patients every single day, but these three certainly gave us an extra dose of smiles today.

Do you think your pet could compete for the title of "Cutest Patient of the Day"? Share a photo in the comments – we'd love to see them! 📸🐶🐱
