Winnie is a little s**t.
Winnie and I have been working together for YEARS, slowly figuring out how to get him through a groom without blood being drawn…mine by the way!
He’s been asked to leave other grooming salons, has bitten, and at one point sedation was looking like the only option.
But anyone who knows me knows I LOVE working with the little s**ts.
Is his groom always perfect? Nope! Sometimes he leaves with a few scraggly bits, sometimes he needs a muzzle, he lets me know EXACTLY when I’ve pushed his buttons.
WINNIE HATES BEING GROOMED. And that’s okay!
We keep it quick, no-nonsense and as safe as possible. Some days he doesn’t get fully dried, and sometimes we have to compromise on the finish.
Because here’s the thing 👇
🐾 Building a relationship with a groomer who understands your dog is SO important.
🐾 Dogs communicate with us, and we need to learn to listen.
🐾 Fear, stress, discomfort and anxiety can all contribute to biting. It’s our job to recognise the signs and adapt.
🐾 A perfect haircut is NEVER more important than a dog’s wellbeing.
After years of working together, I have an 11-year-old Winnie who can still get a haircut, and we all get to go home in one piece!
Sometimes grooming isn’t about perfection. It’s about patience, trust, understanding and knowing when good enough is good enough.
And honestly? I’ll take a slightly scraggly Winnie over a traumatised dog any day. ❤️
