Devotional from Elle

“When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.” — Isaiah 59:19

Sometimes the enemy comes against the very things we love — the things God has placed in our hands and the things we do to honour Him.

Recently, my daughter competed with her horse in a 10km endurance ride for her school. For her horse, being surrounded by unfamiliar horses in a new environment was overwhelming. Add a nervous rider to a very anxious horse, and it felt like the perfect storm.

But in that moment, she had a choice: give in to the fear, or stand firm.

She prayed. She leaned into God’s strength when her own was running out. And she kept praying all the way to the finish line.

The battle wasn’t just about completing a ride. It was about refusing to let fear, anxiety and discouragement take away something she had worked hard for and deeply loved doing.

Prayer drew the line.

The enemy may come like a flood, but we don't have to be swept away by it. We can stand firm, put on the armour of God, and trust Him to lift up a standard over the things He has entrusted to us.
Sometimes faith looks like a big, courageous step. And sometimes it looks like quietly whispering, “Jesus, help me,” one step — or one kilometre — at a time.
Stand firm. Keep praying. Don't surrender what God has placed in your hands simply because the battle gets hard.

A Prayer of Standing Firm
Lord Jesus,
When the enemy comes in like a flood, I declare Your Word over my life:
the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against the enemy.
Lord, be my strength when fear overwhelms me, my peace when anxiety rises, and my courage when I feel like giving up.
Guard the things You have placed in my hands. Guard the gifts, the passions, the opportunities and the purposes You have entrusted to me. Where the enemy seeks to bring fear, confusion or discouragement, raise Your standard.
I will not be moved by what I see or by how strong the storm feels. I choose to stand firm in faith, trusting that You are greater than every obstacle before me.
Just as Alaska prayed through every kilometre, teach me to pray through every battle — not looking for an easy way out, but looking to You for the strength to keep going.
I draw the line in prayer. I stand beneath Your protection. I surrender the battle to You.
And when the flood comes, let Your Spirit rise up within me and lift a standard against the enemy.

In Jesus’ mighty name,
Amen

Our pony games are a fantastic way for children to develop balance, coordination, body awareness and confidence.

Throwing and catching a ball while riding might look like a simple game, but there’s so much happening! The rider is constantly adjusting their balance, coordinating their arms and body, focusing on the target, and staying connected with their pony.

Add in a few laughs, some wobbly moments and lots of encouragement, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for learning through play!
