Solid Foundation Equestrian

Solid Foundation Equestrian Horse training with a balance of Natural Horsemanship and English Riding with an emphasis on building trust and connection leading to a strong partnership.

I’m an experienced horsewoman having over 25 years in the equestrian field, with the majority of this time spent starting, training and competing horses for all English disciplines. I have a wealth of knowledge and experience gained from a variety of equestrian professionals as well as a background in vet nursing, farming and animal husbandry enabling me to develop a holistic approach to producing

horses. I am qualified in equine studies/sport horse, coaching and agriculture, as well as being a National Show Hunter judge. I believe building trust and connection are the foundation blocks to a successful partnership. I offer the following services:

• Handling foals, halter and lead training and preparing them for farriers and vets.

• Float training

• Pre starting

• Starting (putting under saddle)

• Bringing horses back into work

• Schooling

• Giving life experience (farm experience can be included)

• Providing competition experience (showing, show hunter, show jumping, dressage)

• Coaching/lessons

Star arrived over the weekend (by Holden Kingston) and is here to be started…so I’ve been taking things quietly… a bit of groundwork to refresh things and starting to introduce a few new pieces.

Over the last few days she’s been learning to present to be mounted, and today had her first sit 👀. She was a little unsure about me being above her, so I just took a moment there… letting her say not yet, and quietly bringing her back to the block until she was happy to stay with me.

She’s taking it in her stride so far 🤍

Went to hop on Candy and realised I still had my sneakers on 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️

I left her parked at the mounting block while I went to change… came back and she was still parked there, waiting for me, ears pricked 🥰

I love how our partnership is growing… she’s really starting to enjoy her job and wants to be with me 💜

Also… she’s looking rather voluptuous at the moment 🫣😂

RIP boots 🫡

After 20 years of faithful service… my trusty mountain horse boots finally called it a day today 😅

They’ve done more miles than I could ever count… through mud, rain, long days, short days, and everything in between.

Kind of funny how something you put on every day without thinking about it ends up becoming a bit sentimental.

Not sure anything will quite live up to them 🤍🥾

A little moment of appreciation for Shaun 🤍

He arrived mid-March, and like a lot of them, just needed things slowed right down and put back together quietly.

Nothing rushed, nothing forced — just time, consistency, and letting his body start to organise itself in a way that feels better.

It’s been really nice to watch him begin to soften, fill out, and carry himself differently. Still a work in progress, but heading in the right direction.

He’s had a couple of bodywork sessions along the way (thank you Di & Kerry), which have helped uncover what’s been sitting underneath, so we’ll keep things easy for now and let him keep processing.

These ones are always a good reminder that when you don’t rush them, they’ll often meet you there 🤍🐴

(second photo is when he arrived 👀)

Both Apollo and Kiwi had their first rides out of the round pen today… always a bit of a shift for them.

Kiwi had a play in the arena and over some poles, while Apollo headed off on his first little hack.

They were both really relaxed and happy to be out, especially Apollo… he would’ve kept going all day if I’d let him 😂 was happy to lead the way, and even offered a wee trot up the hill.

Seems like adventures around the farm are right up his alley.

Bella had a bit of a new job today… introduced her to ride/leading Apollo 👀🤭

(Slightly bouncy footage thanks to Michelle being on a bouncy horse 😂)

Safe to say the rope touching her was a whole thing 😅 every little feel of it had her questioning life choices for a minute.

Apollo on the other hand… absolute legend. Nothing phased him whatsoever 🥰

By the end of it she’d started to settle and realise it wasn’t that big of a deal… just another thing to figure out.

When your brain is still at the yard… 🤦🏼‍♀️

Kiwi had his second sit today (with a saddle blanket on as he’d rolled in something I didn’t want to sit on 😅), and there was a bit more going on around the yard which always adds another layer.

Being a stallion it doesn’t take much for his attention to drift when other horses start calling and moving around 👀

You can see those moments, and a few where he questions going forward, but this is where the groundwork really starts to come through… same patterns, same feel, and he comes back.

Just quietly learning to stay focused on the job.

Bella had her first hack down the road this week… and we came across this sign, which seems to confirm that “snaking” your way down the road is not optional 😂

She was very committed to following instructions 👀

Kiwi 🤍

8yr old pony stallion here to be started, and his owner has done a really lovely job getting him to this point.

When he first arrived he did have a few opinions 👀 and tried a couple of little tantrums, just seeing if that might still work for him. It’s something he’s picked up before coming here, not from his current owner.

But he’s been pretty quick to settle, and as he’s started to trust me more, he’s also become much happier to just go forward and get on with things.

Yesterday was his first time long reining in the yard, and today we took that out into the paddock… and he just walked out, stayed forward, and got on with it 🥰

Today felt like one of those moments where he really connected and chose to come with me.

He’s a super cool pony and I can’t wait to see him progress 🤍
