Every horse is different, and because of that, every horse deserves a different path.

Some horses thrive on competing regularly and moving up the levels quickly. Some are perfectly suited for young horse classes. Others show signs that they may have the talent to go all the way, and with those horses, I believe patience is one of the most important things we can give them.

My goal is never to see how quickly I can move a horse up the levels. My goal is to develop a horse that is happy, healthy, strong, confident, and genuinely enjoys its work.

That doesn’t mean they never compete. Competition can be a valuable part of education, helping young horses gain experience with the atmosphere and routine of show life. But competing as much and as fast as possible has never been my philosophy.

The horses that have the ability to reach the highest levels often need time to mature, both physically and mentally. Sometimes the hardest thing as a rider is to be patient enough to let them develop at their own pace.

For me, success is not just a score or a level. Success is a horse that remains sound, willing, confident, and still enjoys coming out to work every day.

Zarina is one of those horses that reminds me of that every day. 🖤

Iedereen vraagt wel eens hoe snel een paard door moet stromen naar het volgende niveau. Mijn antwoord is eigenlijk altijd hetzelfde: zo snel als het paard er klaar voor is, en geen dag eerder.

Sommige paarden vinden het heerlijk om veel wedstrijden te lopen, andere paarden hebben meer tijd nodig om fysiek en mentaal te ontwikkelen. Juist de paarden waarvan je denkt dat ze misschien ooit het hoogste niveau kunnen bereiken, verdienen vaak het meeste geduld.

Voor mij draait opleiding niet om zo snel mogelijk punten verzamelen, maar om het ontwikkelen van een gelukkig, gezond, sterk en gemotiveerd paard dat met plezier blijft werken. De weg naar boven is geen sprint maar een lange reis, en soms is geduld de belangrijkste trainingsmethode die er bestaat.

Yesterday I took Nyx of Invictus (2018 v. Totilas) to a ZZ-Licht practice test to see whether the relaxation, softness, suppleness and connection we’ve been working on at home would carry over into the competition arena. 💕🐴

Very happy with how this mare is developing. She felt confident, relaxed, soft and rideable throughout the day and gave me a great feeling.

Another step forward and one step closer to her Small Tour debut. ✨

A huge thank you to Tanja for trusting me with this special mare and for supporting the journey. ❤️

And thank you to everyone behind the scenes whose support makes days like this possible. 😊

And of course, thank you to Tor Tor Van Den Berge for the lessons and for helping think through the journey with Nyx. 😊

Gisteren nam ik Nyx mee naar een ZZ-Licht oefenwedstrijd om te kijken of alle ontspanning, souplesse en verbinding die we thuis hebben opgebouwd ook overeind zouden blijven in de wedstrijdring. 💕🐴

Ik ben ontzettend blij met hoe ze zich presenteerde. Ontspannen, zelfverzekerd, zacht in de hand en fijn aan het been. Weer een mooie stap vooruit en een stap dichter bij haar Lichte Tour-debuut. ✨

There is something incredibly rewarding about working with a horse over time and watching both confidence and understanding grow.

Priapi is a horse I always enjoy riding, and I look forward to every opportunity to continue his development.

Every horse has its own journey, its own strengths, and its own challenges. One of the things I enjoy most as a rider is figuring out what each horse needs to become the best version of itself.

That’s what good training is really about, not forcing a horse into a system, but developing confidence, strength, understanding, and partnership.

Looking forward to continuing the journey with this special boy. ❤️🐴

Er is iets bijzonders aan het werken met een paard over langere tijd en het zien groeien van vertrouwen, begrip en samenwerking.

Priapi is een paard dat ik altijd met veel plezier rijd en ik kijk ernaar uit om verder te bouwen aan zijn ontwikkeling.

Over the years I’ve worn many hats in this industry; rider, trainer, test rider, sales agent, coach, and consultant.

But at the heart of everything I do is a simple belief:

Every horse deserves to be understood as an individual.

No two horses learn the same way.
No two horses have the same strengths.
No two horses have the same story.

Whether I’m developing a young horse, helping a client find the right partner, or preparing a horse for competition, my first job is always the same:

Listen to the horse.

The rest becomes much easier when you start there. ❤️

Elk paard is uniek en verdient het om als individu begrepen te worden.

Wanneer je eerst naar het paard luistert, wordt de rest vaak een stuk eenvoudiger. ❤️

🖤 Roxy

It’s hard to believe that Roxy is only one year old.

I’ve had dogs for most of my life, and after a two year break, I knew I wanted another companion to share this life with. A dog who could come to the stable, travel with me, and be part of all the adventures that come with horses.

What I didn’t expect was just how good she would be at it.

Whether we’re at the stable, walking through the paddocks, meeting clients, or heading off on another road trip to test ride horses, she’s happiest when she’s right there with me, and she always is… right there with me.

Loyal, intelligent, eager to be involved in everything, and always keeping one eye on where I am.

In just one year, we’ve become quite the team. Somehow she always seems to know exactly what her job is, and she does it better than I ever could have hoped.

My little shadow, my travel companion, and quite possibly the best dog I’ve ever had. 🐾🖤

🇳🇱 Het is bijna niet te geloven dat Roxy pas één jaar oud is. In zo’n korte tijd zijn we een echt team geworden. Ze gaat overal mee naartoe, houdt me altijd in de gaten en lijkt precies te begrijpen wat haar taak is. Mijn kleine schaduw en misschien wel de beste hond die ik ooit heb gehad. 🖤🐾

One of the things I enjoy most about training horses is seeing the gradual development that happens over time.

With Nyx, the focus has been on building strength, balance, suppleness and rideability. As those pieces improve, the expression and quality of the work continue to grow as well.

As the summer competition season begins, many riders start thinking about their next partner for the future 🐴✨

For those who don’t know me yet , I’m an American rider living and working in the Netherlands for nearly 10 years, centrally based near Belgium and Germany.

I offer two services for international clients searching for dressage horses in Europe:

▪️ Independent, commission-free test rides with completely objective feedback
▪️ Transparent horse sales assistance and matchmaking (never more than 10% commission)

A large part of my work happens behind the scenes speaking extensively with clients to understand exactly what they need in a horse, reviewing videos, traveling to barns across Europe, test riding horses, and providing detailed written reports describing everything from rideability and temperament to strengths, weaknesses, and overall suitability.

I also assist clients throughout the full buying process, including vetting, contracts, negotiations, and international transport.

My goal is simple: to make the horse buying process more honest, transparent, and stress-free.
