Difficult to brush difficult dogs with the ADB Petite?
Yes, to do difficult dogs you have to be experienced how to use the ADB Petite the right way
I managed to brush many dogs with the ADB Petite, who were too aggressive to be brushed with a handbrush.
Some even had to be shaved under anesthesia at the vet’s every time.
But I could brush them with the ADB Petite
With aggressive dogs I start by brushing them while they’re wearing a muzzle, so they can’t bite me.
Or I ask their owner (or my husband) to hold their head for a little while until they get used to it.
If you use the ADB Petite the right way, they soon realize it doesn’t hurt; they calm down,
and then it becomes easier to brush them.
I always start brushing at the shoulder with a “first time dog”. The shoulder is the spot they mind the least.
They soon realize the brush doesn’t hurt them, making it easier to brush the rest of their body.
It also helps if you are personally certain that brushing doesn’t hurt them.
Try using the brush on your own bare forearm. If you don’t press down, you won’t feel a thing.
If you do press down, you’ll feel the scratching.
So, you know it won’t hurt the dog as long as you don’t apply pressure.
Your attitude is different when you know you aren’t hurting the dog than when you think it does cause pain.
And dogs notice that.
Dogs also quickly realize that all that fussing doesn’t help when you simply keep on brushing.
Dogs need to be brushed after all to prevent worse problems. Like matting and skinproblems because of the matting.
If you also regularly reward good behavior with a happy voice and a hug, they’ll be completely won over.
If you do it this way, every brushing session will go better and eventually you do not need the muzzle anymore.
My dogs even fall asleep on the grooming table while being brushed.
So yes it is more difficult to brush difficult dogs. But it can be done!
