I gave up on doing things outside because of the heat. I was really bothered and in such a bad mood earlier - pushing through and still not getting anything done. It's 'only' 26°C here, and not as warm as in the Netherlands as I keep hearing from my students, but it definitely feels like 40°C.
The horses are trying to live with the dragonflies. There is not much that I can do for them until later this evening when it cools down a little. They'll have to accept and endure. And they do. It's hard on them, but looking at them can teach us about this thing called surrendering to what is inconvenient.
Mentally balanced horses don't waste precious energy on fighting that what cannot be changed. They'll save it. Looking at them, standing, swishing tails, lips long and mouths a little open, twitching their fly muscles, it's like they're practising some eastern meditation while staying flexible in their bodies.
Surrendering can be hard for humans. We have learned early on to change our fate. To ignore our bodies and go on willpower. Personally, coming from a childhood home where being sick was equal to weakness and just not done, I am still struggling with the early imprint of this.
Instead of keeping up the fight, I ultimately retreated, remember what I have to remember and went in. I can prepare for a coaching call tomorrow by watching an old Ray Hunt video, which is a lot more useful than battling on.
