Today I got an emergency call from my sister-in-law 😆
A giant house spider had appeared, and she wanted it removed immediately. When I arrived, I found a very dehydrated little lady who barely had any energy left.
After some water, she's doing much better and is spending the night in a temporary enclosure with some juicy flies before being released back into the wild tomorrow. 🕷️✨
What makes this extra special to me is that spiders like her are actually the reason I overcame my arachnophobia.
Years ago, my husband rescued a house spider from our bathroom and placed her in a small decorated container. What started as a simple rescue turned into one of the most fascinating things I've ever witnessed. She produced three egg sacs quickly after and carefully collected tiny pieces of moss from the bottom, carrying them in her mouth to camouflage and protect her eggs.
Sadly, she passed away not long after, but I was able to release all of her babies into my garage.
Watching that little spider care for her eggs completely changed the way I saw spiders. Instead of seeing something scary, I saw a living creature doing her best to survive and care for her young.
Since then, I've never looked at them the same way again.
They're harmless, fascinating animals that deserve a little kindness, not a shoe. ❤️🕷️
