Did you know this about newborn foals?
• A flying start: A foal is typically up and nursing within just two hours of birth, and they’re often galloping within 24 hours. @ Studfarm Keystud every birth remains a unique wonder.
• Nighttime arrivals: At our stud farm, we know this all too well: most foals are born at night, and the process happens in the blink of an eye. It’s a moment you can easily miss if you’re not keeping a close watch.
• A healthy foundation: The first intake of colostrum is vital for a newborn's immune system. Those first crucial liters lay the essential groundwork for the rest of their life.
• Born with length: Did you know that a foal’s legs are already about 80 to 90% of their adult length at birth? They don't grow much longer as they mature, which explains why they look so long-legged from the start.
• Exploring the world: By the time they are a week old, they’re already starting to sample the grass. Around 10 days of age, you’ll often see them actively nibbling on hay or grass—their first steps toward independence.
