🐸🧡 IN SEARCH OF OOPHAGA PUMILIO ‘SOLARTE’

One of the most beautiful orange colour forms of Oophaga pumilio! 🍊🌿

These stunning little poison dart frogs can vary quite a bit in appearance. Some have distinctive white feet, while others are entirely orange or display small black spots. Every individual has its own unique look!

When we arrived on Solarte Island in Panama, we immediately heard their calls echoing throughout the forest. After an entire night and morning of rain, we expected plenty of activity — and we weren't disappointed!

After just a short search, we spotted the first little pumilios hopping around among the vegetation. What an incredible experience to observe these tiny jewels in their natural habitat! 🤩

Unfortunately, places like this are increasingly under pressure from habitat destruction. That's why protecting these unique ecosystems is so important. 🌱

What do you think of this incredible location and these beautiful orange pumilios? 🧡🐸

🐸 The story of Oophaga pumilio ‘Robalo’

Unfortunately, during our visit, we witnessed a large area of forest being cleared to make way for new housing developments. 🌳💔

Despite the ongoing destruction of their habitat, the Oophaga pumilio ‘Robalo’ population is still present at this location — something we can only hope will remain the case in the future.

Sadly, this is becoming an increasingly familiar sight. Precious natural habitats are disappearing to make room for human development, putting the future of these unique frogs and countless other species at risk.

Seeing these animals in their natural environment is incredible, but witnessing the destruction of the very place they call home is heartbreaking.

We can only hope that this population will continue to survive, but how long will it be able to withstand the pressure? 🐸🌿
