Last week, we spent several days hiking in the Ardennes and decided to cross the border for a day trip to Luxembourg. After a beautiful morning hiking the W6 of the Mullerthal Trail, we made our way to the charming town of Vianden for a few relaxing hours.

Our main destination was the impressive Vianden Castle, perched high above the town. Unfortunately, dogs aren’t allowed inside the castle, so we could only admire it from the outside. Even so, the views alone made the visit worthwhile!

We sat on a bench overlooking the castle and spent some time reading about its fascinating history online. It was the perfect way to take a break while learning more about the place we were visiting.

Afterwards, we walked all the way down to Vianden’s lively town centre. The downhill walk was easy, and the town had a lovely atmosphere, with charming streets, beautiful buildings and plenty of places to stop for a drink or something to eat.

If you’re visiting without a dog, there’s another enjoyable option: take the chairlift and admire the views from above. 🚡

Vianden is easy to combine with one of the many beautiful hikes in the Mullerthal region. A perfect combination of hiking, history and a little exploring.

A few days away together, without the kids! ♥️
Today we visited Dinant and went for a beautiful hike nearby, with about 130 meters of elevation gain and pain. The route was absolutely stunning, with the impressive Aiguilles de Chaleux and breathtaking views over the Lesse Valley. I found this lovely route on Komoot. 🥾🌿

Dogs aren’t allowed in the Furfooz nature reserve, but luckily we could easily walk around it and still enjoy the beautiful surroundings. What a lovely day and all@dead now! ✨

Lately, I’ve had a few comments that Libby looks ‘undernourished’ or ‘too skinny’.

But this girl runs 3 to 5 kilometres or more every other day. She’s energetic, strong, athletic and simply very fit. And honestly? I love seeing her this fit and full of energy. 🐕💨

In fact, thanks to Libby, I’ve become much fitter myself than I’ve been in the past few years. She literally keeps me moving.

So I’m once again absolutely in love with this photo by Melissa from Eyz for Photography She captured exactly how I see her: strong, energetic and healthy.

And in a way, I find it quite remarkable how we seem to be normalising overweight dogs more and more. Overfeeding a dog or allowing a dog to remain overweight might sound loving ‘he just loves his food’ or ‘she’s just nicely chunky’ but being overweight can also lead to health problems and a lower quality of life.

To me, loving an animal doesn’t mean giving them as much as they want simply because they enjoy it. It also means taking responsibility for their health, fitness and overall wellbeing.

So let’s be careful not to start seeing overweight dogs as the norm. A fit dog doesn’t have to be skinny, and a healthy dog won’t look the same as every other dog. Look at the individual dog, their build, their fitness and, above all, what their body is telling you.
