Can dogs with strong working instincts still fit comfortably into modern companion life?
We're asking very different types of dogs to fill essentially the same role: companion.
So where does the adjustment happen? Do we find realistic ways for dogs to express what comes naturally to them or gradually breed those tendencies down to better suit the lives we live? Probably some combination of both.
Finding that balance without asking dogs to change too much is an interesting challenge. But can we really have it both ways?
