Know your sources ‼️
Getting a puppy can feel a bit like stepping into a circus of opinions. 😵‍💫
Suddenly everyone has advice: the breeder, the vet, the internet, your neighbour, and that one reel with dramatic music and zero context.
So I have some advice for you too!! 📣
- Looking for a puppy or dog? Go to a breeder or shelter.
- Need vaccinations or medical help? Go to the vet.
- Want help with training or behaviour? Go to a certified trainer or behavioural consultant.
- Need dietary advice? Go to an animal nutritionist.
The problem starts when everyone starts moonlighting as an expert in everything.
A breeder is not automatically a behaviour professional. A vet is not automatically a trainer. And a trainer should not be your go-to for medical or nutrition advice.
Why does this matter? Because dog advice is not one-size-fits-all, and the wrong guidance can create more confusion than progress.
So yes, ask questions. Just make sure you’re asking the right person. And for professionals; the last picture is for you! 😜

Bij ons kan je pup wekelijks instromen. Zij kunnen namelijk niet wachten om te beginnen met de absolute basics. Je koopt een pakket van 6 lessen die je flexibel kunt gebruikten. Dus kan je een week niet of is je puppy niet lekker, geen probleem. Dan sla je gewoon een weekje over. Het pakket is 3 maanden geldig. We werken in kleine groepjes, ieder op zIjn eigen niveau. Elke zaterdag, om 10.00 in 🇳🇱 en om 11.30 in 🇬🇧 op ons volledig omheinde terrein aan de Riekerweg 6, Amsterdam. You can enrol your puppy with us any week. After all, they can’t wait to get started with the absolute basics. You buy a package of 6 lessons that you can use flexibly. So if you can’t make it one week or your puppy isn’t feeling well, no problem. You can simply skip that week. The package is valid for 3 months. We work in small groups, each at their own level. Every Saturday, at 10.00 in 🇳🇱 and at 11.30 in 🇬🇧 on our fully fenced-in premises at Riekerweg 6, Amsterdam

In September we start a new Scent Detection Training Course. 🐽
Sniffing for calm and focus. For dogs, sniffing is more than just a fun activity, it helps regulate the nervous system, reduce tension and support calm, focused behaviour. Especially for reactive, tense or overly alert dogs, structured sniffing can make a real difference. In these dogs, the threat response system is often ‘switched on’ for prolonged periods. Sniffing can help shift that balance, so that the dog reacts less out of a defensive instinct to more to more curious, information gathering and engaged behaviour. Suitable for dogs of all breeds, ages and experience levels. We work in small groups on 3 fully fenced fields, with plenty of space between dogs — so reactive dogs are very welcome too. Want to join? The weather is shifting this weekend, and rain is part of it. 🌧️ For nature and for us, that may feel refreshing, but for dogs it can change how the world smells and sounds. Rainy air carries smells better, sounds can seem sharper, and suddenly your dog is not just on a walk, they’re apparently doing field research. 🧐 Some dogs get more alert, some get restless, or more easily overstimulated. For reactive dogs, a weather shift can be a surprisingly big event. 😵‍💫
In this video you see Bamse (Teddy Bear in Danish) using her nose to collect information, and that is exactly what dogs are built to do. Their noses are built with special structures that increase surface area, improve airflow, and help odor particles reach the olfactory tissue (smell-center) more efficiently, so even a tiny amount of smell can tell them a lot. 🐽
So a rainy day is not just wet for your dog, it can be a whole new scent experience

This weekend we had the pleasure of hosting at our training facility. She is currently working toward her CBATI certification, a qualification in Behavior Adjustment Training for helping dogs with fear, frustration, reactivity, and more.
Effortless client coaching, solid knowledge, and that kind of dog-human connection you can’t fake, the dogs clocked it immediately… and so did we. Safe to say: we’re impressed. Come back soon, Christine.

This is dogs understanding body language at its finest.
Luke wants to cuddle on the sofa, something we always do. But for filming, I subtly lean away, signaling I’m not open to interaction.
You can see a brief moment of confusion, because this is our usual routine. Still, he reads my “dog language,” understands, and stops trying.
When your dog leans away or turns their head, that’s their way of saying: “I don’t want to engage.”
