MATERNITY LEAVE UPDATE

It’s almost time! My leave will officially begin on 14 October.

My remaining scheduled house calls will finish on Friday, 9 October, which will also be the deadline for prescription refill requests and other non-urgent requests before I go on leave.

If your animal takes ongoing medication, needs parasite prevention, calming medication for vet visits/travel/fireworks, or you know you’ll need records or a referral while I’m away, please get in touch by 9 October.

I’m spending these final couple of weeks wrapping up patient records and making as much information as possible accessible through the Digitail Pet Parent app, as well as completing outstanding prescriptions, referrals, and follow-ups.

From 14 October, I’ll be stepping away from the practice to focus on our family. My assistant Elias may periodically check WhatsApp, email, and Digitail for basic administrative purposes, but these inboxes will not be routinely monitored for veterinary care.

I currently hope to gradually return to house calls in early February 2027.

Just a subtle sign I’m going on maternity leave soon!

The large majority of cats I see for medical care are much calmer at home than at a typical clinic visit. As I prepare for my 4 month maternity leave, I want to be sure any anxious kitties are prescribed calming medicine (gabapentin or pregabalin) so they can be as relaxed as possible in case they need to visit a clinic while I’m away.

Sometimes the first patient of the house call becomes nursing support on your shoulder when you need to tube feed her sick chicken friend Sonja 💕. I guess Missy had quickly forgotten about how only 15 min earlier she was a little purrito for her blood sample 🤷‍♀️ ✨

💕 Maternity leave update 💕

As we get closer to welcoming our baby, I’ll be gradually reducing my house call schedule over the coming weeks, with regular house call appointments pausing from 8 October.

Availability throughout September and early October will therefore be more limited than usual. If your animal is due for vaccinations, blood tests, medication monitoring, or other ongoing care, please reach out early so we can plan ahead.

I expect to remain available on a limited basis for remote support for a short time after in-person house calls pause, before stepping away more fully ahead of baby's arrival in early November. I’m currently planning to gradually return to house calls in early February 2027.

I’ll be sending more detailed updates about my leave, prescriptions, medical records, and where to seek care while I’m away through Mokum Mobile Vet's email newsletter.

Happy Ginger Cat Appreciation Day!

I was going to share a bunch of fav photos of the numerous ginger cat patients I care for, but I quickly became overwhelmed. Soo many orange cuties 🧡

So instead, here is a photo of our ginger female cat (rare) actually cuddling (rare for her) while I watch RuPaul’s Drag Race (not at all rare for me). 🧡🧡🧡

August availability update 🗓️

Just a quick heads-up that I’ll have reduced availability on two Fridays during August:

• Friday 7 August: No house call appointments. I’ll still be available by phone/email for existing clients until mid-afternoon.

• Friday 21 August: No house calls or phone availability.

The rest of my schedule remains unchanged, though I will add some extra availability on mornings of Wed 19 and 26 Aug.

Who says old cats can’t learn new tricks? MP (short for Mary Poppins) knows exactly what happens when she steps on the scale — treats!

In fact, she had a hard time leaving the scale during the whole visit today…just waiting and waiting, going on and off the scale over and over expecting for more treats to appear 😂
