What is triage?

Triage is simply deciding who needs help first in an emergency.

Imagine several sick or injured animals needing a Vet at the same time. The veterinarian quickly checks each one and treats the animal in the most serious condition first, the one that could die without immediate care.

This helps save more lives because urgent cases are attended to before less serious ones.

In an emergency, the first patient seen is not always the one that arrived first—it’s the one that needs help the most.
