* The green-winged macaw can be readily distinguished from the scarlet macaw. While the breast of both birds are bright red, the upper-wing covert feathers of the green-winged macaw is mostly green (as opposed to mostly yellow, or a strong mix of yellow and green in the scarlet macaw). In addition, the green-winged macaw has characteristic red lines around the eyes formed by rows of tiny feathers on the otherwise bare white skin patch; this is one of the biggest differences from a scarlet macaw to the casual viewer. Iridescent teal feathers are surrounded by red on the tail. If seen together, the green-winged macaw is clearly larger than the scarlet macaw as well. In terms of length, this species is second only in size to the hyacinth macaw, the largest of the macaws. The red-and-green macaw attains a total body length of 90 to 95 cm (35 to 37 in) in adults. Twelve adults were found to average 1,214 g (2.676 lb). A weight range of between 1,050 and 1,708 g (2.315 and 3.765 lb) has been reported.[5] While its weight range is broadly similar to that of the hyacinth, the average weight of the red-and-green macaw is slightly surpassed by both the hyacinth and great green macaws, and amongst all living parrots additionally by the kākāpō. The green-winged macaw generally mates for life. The female typically lays two or three eggs in a nest made in a hole in a tree. The female incubates the eggs for about 28 days, and the chicks fledge from the nest about 90 days after hatching.

*If you anticipate having little time—or inclination—to interact with your pet birds, finches will make an ideal pet. Bengalese finches appear to be shorter-lived than most other small birds, with an average life span of about 4 -8 years. Bengalese Finch. Bengalese finches were domesticated from the white-rumped munia. The date of domestication is unknown but it occurred in oriental Asia. They have lighter plumage than their wild counterparts with mostly light brown feathers, a blacker tail and cream lower body. The male Society Finch has a boisterously loud song. He will puff out his feathers and stand tall while he quickly hops from side to side singing. They will sing to hens and other males. The hens do not sing but do make clicking or warning sounds. Society Finches are easy to take care of, come in a variety of color mutations and make excellent parents. Like the Zebra Finches, they are often used to raise the chicks of less successful finch parents. These little birds are known for their ability to get along so well with everyone including other finches hence their name "society" suggests. They are cheerful little birds that do well in groups and are quite easy to look after. They are also quite easy to breed if, of course, adequately sexed which is very difficult as both genders look exactly the same. Gender could be determined by behaviour since the male of these species tend to sing to impress and court the female. As they are great parents they are oftentimes taking over as foster parents for the Gouldian Finch, which is not as reliable at incubating and caring for its young as the society finches are. Breeders will simply swap the eggs of the gouldian finch and the society finch. If this is done, it is important that the eggs are at the same stage of development (have been incubated for about the same time). The society finches are very affordable and prolific breeders.

* Burung ini dikenal oleh orang barat dengan sebutan Society finch. Burung ini merupakan jenis burung finch yang diperkirakan telah dikembangkan oleh bangsa Cina sejak berabad-abad lalu. Umumnya burung ini ditemukan dalam tiga warna yaitu putih mulus, putih kecoklatan dan kehitaman. Kita juga bisa menemukan adanya spesies burung ini yang berjambul dalam warna-warna tersebut. Panjang burung ini sekitar 13 cm, sangat mudah dipelihara dan mudah diternakan sehingga sangat baik bagi kalangan pemula pemelihara burung hias. Burung ini susah dibedakan jenis kelaminnya, tetapi dengan mendengarkan suara kicauan khas dari sang jantan maka kita masih dapat membedakannya dengan mudah.

* 群居在旧巢中，一般10只或10余只同居一旧巢，故又有‘十姐妹’之，称。常站在树枝、竹枝等高处鸣叫，也常边飞边鸣，鸣声单调低弱，但很清晰。其声似 ‘嘘、嘘、嘘、嘘’，多4-5声一度，声声分开，急速而短，受惊时鸣声更尖锐而短促。飞行时两翅扇动甚快，常可听见振翅声，特别是成群飞翔时声响更大，快而有力，呈波浪状前进。性温顺，不畏人，易于驯养。经过驯养的鸟非常眷恋人和它栖居的笼子，常常打开笼门也不飞，或站到人的手上，也能教会它做些简单的动作。过去有人利用它这一特性，训练它占贴、卜卦。白腰文鸟喜欢水浴，在箱笼要设置水浴盘的位置，每天9点以后在盘内注入清洁浴水，放入箱笼，它就会自己跳进洗澡。白腰文鸟是最容易饲养和繁殖的笼养观赏鸟。由于身体强健，抱窝性强，常被用来孵育其它文鸟科中的笼鸟，故有保姆鸟之称。在饲养中，只要有食有水，防止骤热骤冷，则鸟儿就会正常生活。在产卵和育雏期，可加饲蛋粉和青菜，适当补饲骨粉。白腰文鸟的鸟笼因目的而异。观赏笼用金丝雀、黄雀或沼泽山雀就很好。只是在远离笼门近笼顶处直挂一壶状草巢或小口葫芦，供鸟休眠用。成对或成群饲养、繁殖，则宜用光线较暗的繁殖笼，可把金丝雀繁殖笼安巢部分用硬纸片或布稍加遮挡，巢改换成壶状草果或暗巢箱。简易箱笼可以用水果箱自制。
