It started with this wood.
Found a piece that I liked, started playing around with it… then one piece became two, a few rocks came in, and somehow this happened. 😄
No client, no brief, no real plan for it yet. Just trying out an idea and seeing where the hardscape takes me.
Now I’m thinking whether I should actually complete this one.
Maybe a very slow water flow coming down from somewhere near the top, with moss and small plants growing around the wet areas…
Or keep it simpler with just moss and some mini plants and let the hardscape do most of the talking.
What would you do?

Tank's getting a little chunky again. Did some tank maintenance last week, but don't worry, no extreme makeovers here! Just a little nip and tuck - removed some extra fluffy moss, trimmed the yellow and wilted leaves, and gave it a haircut to keep it from getting too bushy. No dramatic before-and-afters this time, just a quick tidy and back to growing like a w**d 🌱

Growing into the design. 🌿

The foreground plants in this gallery tank have been growing pretty fast lately.

At this rate, I reckon another month or so before most of those little patches start connecting.

This is one of the things I enjoy about aquascaping. The layout doesn't have to look completely filled in from day one.

We create the structure, give the plants room to grow, and let the whole landscape slowly develop over time.

Of course, a little trimming and adjustment along the way to keep everything in shape.

Let's see how it looks next month!

A little colour for the little visitors. 🌿

This is one of the planted tanks we maintain at a client's clinic.

Personally, GloFish tetras wouldn't normally be our first choice for a nature-style aquascape.

But our client had a different idea. She wanted something colourful to catch the attention of children and keep them entertained while waiting at the clinic.

And I can understand that.

While we aquascapers tend to focus on the layout, plants and overall composition, sometimes the people enjoying the aquarium see things a little differently.

Hopefully, these colourful little fellows make the waiting time a little more enjoyable for the kids. 😊

A little prep work before planting. 🌿

I like to get all my plants cleaned, separated and arranged into small portions before I start planting.

Once everything is ready, I can just concentrate on where each plant goes instead of stopping halfway to prepare the next bunch.

Makes the planting process a little smoother, especially when there are quite a few plants involved.

How about you? Do you prepare everything first or just plant as you go? 😄

It started with one of our display layouts.

The customer liked one of the ready-made hardscape arrangements we had in the shop, so we recreated it for their own aquarium.

A little adjustment here and there, changing the planting base to aquasoil, keeping some white sand in front, and finally adding the plants.

Same idea, but a slightly different outcome.

Now we let the plants do their thing. 😄

Hopefully we'll get to see this one again after a few months of growth.

Quite liking how this one is looking lately.

The plants have filled back in nicely after trimming, the rocks are still showing, and the red fish add just enough contrast.

I also added a new plant into the layout recently.

Still not sure yet how much it will change the overall look, so I’m just going to let it settle in and see how it develops over the next few months.

That’s part of the fun with planted tanks anyway — sometimes you plan, sometimes you just observe and adjust along the way.

Been working on this little GreenCultiva display rack over the past few days.

Designed it, cut the panels, wrapped the graphics and assembled the first unit ourselves.

Took longer than expected, but quite satisfying seeing something that was just an idea on screen becoming a physical display.

This one can hold up to 45 packs of tissue culture plants.

Still testing and refining things as we go. One rack at a time 🌿

They are getting tall. 😂

Back for maintenance and the first thing I noticed was how much the plants above the tank have stretched out.

Someone who follows us on IG told me recently that she really likes this setup, so here’s another little update.

Happy that someone else enjoys watching it grow too.

Not every aquascape project needs to start from a brand new tank. 🌿

This customer already had the tank and equipment ready. We came in to help with the aquascape — working out the layout, planting and putting everything together into a more natural composition.

This photo was sent to us about one week after setup. Still very early days and the plants have a lot of growing and settling in to do, but the structure is already there.

Give it a little time and nature will do the rest.

So if you already have your tank and equipment but you're stuck on how to turn everything into an aquascape, that's something we can help with too.

Your tank. Our scape. Let it grow. 🌿
