I received a call from a young girl about a dog lying helplessly inside an abandoned building.
She said he couldn’t move and needed help getting to a clinic.
When I arrived and laid eyes on him, my heart sank.
The poor boy was in a terrible condition. Multiple wounds covered his body, with severe pressure sores that had progressed to the point where bone was exposed. His eyes were filled with green discharge, and the way he looked at us is something I will remember forever…🥺
The despair. The helplessness.
It was as if he was silently asking, “Can you help me?”🥺
From his injuries, it appears he may have been the victim of a hit-and-run accident that left him with a fractured spine and paralysis.
What breaks me most is wondering how long he had been suffering out there, alone.
How did nobody see him?
How did nobody stop when a life was slowly fading away?😫🤷🏻♀️😣😭
Looking at him reminded me so much of Hamlet, a dog we rescued four years ago with the same spinal injury and the same devastating wounds. Hamlet had been left to die for two weeks before we found him.
But this boy had likely been waiting much longer to reach such a heartbreaking state.
He was rushed to the clinic, and we hoped there might still be a chance.
But the damage was simply too severe.
The kindest thing anyone could do for him was to let him go peacefully.😣🙏
His story did not get the ending we wished for.
But he did not die alone in that abandoned building.
Before he left this world, he was given a name —
For once he was seen, he was cared for.
And he was given a proper burial with dignity.🪷🙏
I’m sorry we found you too late, Pax.
Run free, no more pain…
Rest well now🙏❤️
Thank you, Adele, for caring enough to stop, to see him, and to ask for help. Without you, Pax’s suffering might have continued unnoticed.
