今天看到 Threads 有人在为狗狗子宫蓄脓筹款。
说真的，看了很心疼，但同时也忍不住想问：
为什么一定要等到发生了，才来想办法？
没有繁殖计划的母狗，绝育本来就是可以降低子宫蓄脓风险的一种预防方式。
年轻、健康的时候做，至少还有选择。
等到年纪大了，感染、发炎、肚子痛、没精神，甚至严重到要紧急开刀——
那时候不只是狗狗受罪，医疗费也可能直接翻几倍。
然后钱不够，开始筹款。
我真的不明白：
明明可以提早预防，为什么偏偏要把风险留给狗狗承担？
很多人舍不得花一笔绝育的钱，觉得“我的狗不会有事”。
可是等真的出事了，狗狗不会因为主人当初省下了绝育费，就少痛一点。
我们可以没钱买贵的东西，
可以不追求最好的用品，
但如果一笔合理的预防性医疗费用都不愿意考虑，最后却让狗狗承担更大的医疗风险——
那到底是谁在为“省钱”付代价？
当然，每只狗的身体状况不同，绝育也不是完全没有风险，应该让兽医评估适合的年龄和方式。
但如果你的母狗还年轻、健康，而且没有繁殖计划：
请不要等子宫蓄脓找上门，才发现“原来这个可以预防”。
养狗不是只有生病了才负责治疗。
Today, I saw someone on Threads raising funds for a dog suffering from pyometra (uterine infection).
Honestly, it breaks my heart to see a dog going through this. But at the same time, I can’t help but ask:
Why wait until it happens before doing something about it?
If you have no plans to breed your female dog, spaying is one way to significantly reduce the risk of pyometra.
When she is young and healthy, you still have a choice.
But once she gets older and develops an infection — abdominal pain, weakness, loss of appetite, and possibly needing emergency surgery…
The dog suffers, and the medical bill can be many times higher.
And when the money isn’t there, the owner has to turn to fundraising.
I genuinely don’t understand:
If something can be prevented, why leave the risk for the dog to bear?
Some people hesitate to pay for spaying because they think,
“Nothing will happen to my dog.”
But when something does happen, your dog won’t suffer any less just because you saved money on spaying years ago.
We may not have money for expensive things.
We may not always be able to afford the best products or luxuries.
But if we refuse to consider a reasonable preventive medical expense, only to let our dog face a much bigger medical risk later…
Then who is really paying the price for “saving money”?
Of course, every dog is different. Spaying is still a surgical procedure and comes with its own risks, so the appropriate age and approach should always be discussed with a veterinarian.
But if your female dog is still young, healthy, and you have no plans to breed her:
Please don’t wait for pyometra to happen before realizing that this risk could have been prevented.
Being a responsible pet owner isn’t just about paying for treatment when our dogs get sick.
Real responsibility is also doing what we can, while they are still healthy, to prevent avoidable suffering. 🐶❤️
