Campbell’s dwarf hamsters are nippy?🐹
We used to believe that too.

In the early days of KL Hamsters Farm, we were bitten by Campbell’s dwarf hamsters almost every day. Eventually, we gave up and thought, “Maybe that’s just how Campbell’s are.”

But a few months ago, we decided to try again — with a different approach.

We started gently handling and socialising our pups from as early as 2 weeks old.

Short interactions.
Gentle handling.
Positive experiences.
Consistency — every day.

And the results surprised us.

Our Campbell’s dwarf hamsters started becoming:
More comfortable on our hands
Calm when being handled

Less likely to nip

Not all hamster foods are created equal.

Foods high in sugar (such as dried banana, red dates and other dried fruits) and fat (too many sunflower seeds and corn) should be limited. Seeds are an important part of a hamster’s diet—but only in the right balance. Fruits should only be given occasionally as small treats.

A good staple hamster food should offer:

Kuala Lumpur traffic, endless meetings, the constant tapping on her laptop, the “just one more thing” messages — it all lingers in her mind as she unlocks her door. Her shoulders are tight. Her energy is gone. She only wants one thing: quiet.

The moment she steps inside, the apartment is calm.
And then she hears it — a soft rustling sound.

Yes… and it means everything to us. 🐹

Some stories really stay with us.

A lovely mommy and her teenage daughter travelled all the way from Kuantan — not once, but twice — just to get their perfect little companion.

Their first visit wasn’t to buy.
It was to learn.

They came, asked questions, understood proper care… then went home to prepare.

Before their second trip, they made sure everything was ready — even setting up a large, proper cage for their future hamster.

And then… they made the journey again. By bus. Over 10 hours for the round trip. Honestly, we were deeply touched.

That was the question on Sarah’s mind one afternoon in Kuala Lumpur.
Sarah, originally from Sweden, had been living in KL with her two boys, both in primary school. Like many kids, her boys had been asking for a pet for months — and recently, they became especially excited about hamsters.

“They’re small, cute, and easy… right?” her younger son asked.
