The enzyme source. The new formula uses plant based enzymes instead of animal based enzymes, making it a great option for dogs and cats with protein sensitivities, including those sensitive to pork or beef.

Healthy Gut combines our signature prebiotic and probiotic foundation with digestive enzymes to support healthy digestion and nutrient absorption.

It contains a 14 strain probiotic blend providing 30 billion CFU, together with digestive enzymes including papain, bromelain and VegPanzyme 4X.

🐶🐱 Who is it for?

Healthy Gut can be particularly useful for kibble fed animals, senior animals, rescue animals, malnourished animals, animals with digestive issues, or animals who may not be absorbing nutrients efficiently.

It can also be helpful for animals requiring additional digestive and nutrient absorption support, including those with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) under veterinary guidance.

Large stool volume can sometimes be an indication that an animal is not digesting or absorbing nutrients efficiently. Supporting digestion can help the body make better use of the nutrients in each meal.

Ingredients:
Larch arabinogalactan 550mg, multi strain probiotic blend 30 billion CFU, Papain 50,000 PU 5mg, Betaine HCL 10mg, Bromelain 2,400 GDU 15mg and VegPanzyme 4X 100mg.

Yeast? In a probiotic? Yes. And it’s not what you might think.

When we talk about probiotics, we usually think about beneficial bacteria. Saccharomyces boulardii is different. It is a specific probiotic yeast with characteristics that make it particularly interesting for certain gut health situations, including digestive upset, loose stools, dysbiosis and antibiotic use.

It also gives us a good reminder that probiotics aren't all interchangeable.

Different strains and microorganisms can behave differently in the gut and have different studied roles. This is why we pay attention to the actual strains, their research and the formulation, rather than simply choosing based on CFU numbers or how long the ingredient list is.

For many animals, a diverse multi strain probiotic can be a great way to provide broader support. In other situations, a more targeted approach may be worth considering, particularly when we want to keep things simple and observe how an individual animal responds.

And for animals with allergies, skin concerns or sensitive digestion, gut support can be an important foundation while we also work to understand the bigger picture.

So yes, S. boulardii is a probiotic yeast. But it isn't the same thing as the yeasts associated with skin or ear overgrowth.

“Gut Health” on the label doesn’t automatically mean gut health in the bottle.

With so many probiotic products now on the market, we believe it’s important to look beyond the marketing.

A probiotic isn’t just about CFU count. When we vet a probiotic for our animals, we look at the strains, their research, their intended function, species relevance, survivability, and how the overall formula is designed, and much more.

Different strains can have different functions. More strains ≠ automatically better if there’s no reason for each one to be there.

We also consider prebiotics, which can provide fuel to support beneficial microbes, when appropriate for the formula.

Species also matters. The microbiome of a dog or cat isn't the same as humans, so we believe it's important to look for strains that have been studied specifically in animals rather than simply assuming a human probiotic is suitable for them.

One of our quiet heroes.

We don't talk about the Astro range nearly as much as we probably should.

Mostly because it’s busy doing its work, we are busy supporting cases. Over the decade, its quietly built its own reputation through the CKD communities, rescue networks, veterinarians, and word of mouth.

It's a brand that's become a core only our kidney support journeys within our Honu Paws and its rescue communities ages back. We've also been encouraged to see growing interest from the local veterinarian community as more positive outcomes are shared and witnessed.

So here's a little reintroduction.

Developed by medical doctor Dr. Marcovici in 2007, the Astro range was created around years of research into the role of chronic inflammation in kidney disease. Today, Astro offers a comprehensive range of kidney health formulations developed to support kidney function and overall renal health. Designed to complement conventional veterinary treatment, the range can be used alongside prescribed medications as part of a comprehensive kidney care plan .
