Does your pet sometimes treat the toilet bowl like their personal water fountain? 🚽🐶🐱

Although an occasional sip is not life-threatening, but toilet water is not a safe or a recommended drinking source for your fur-child. This is because the bowl may contain bacteria, traces of cleaning products and other residue that could cause mouth irritation, vomiting or diarrhoea.

Here are some ways to keep your pet away from the toilet:
• Keep the toilet lid and bathroom door closed
• Refresh and clean their water bowl regularly
• Place several water bowls around the home
• Keep water in a quiet, easily accessible area
• Consider a pet water fountain if they prefer moving water

But…, if your pet frequently searches for unusual water sources or appears thirstier than usual, you may want to arrange for a visit to the vet. This is because increased thirst can sometimes be linked to an underlying health condition.

Have you ever wondered whether your dog knows that another animal is also a dog? 🐶💭

Well, research suggests that dogs can distinguish faces from everyday objects and visually recognise their fellow dogs, even when they come in very different shapes, sizes, colours and breeds.

The combination of the visual cues, their powerful sense of smell and other senses, dogs are better equipped to recognise members of their own species than we might think. Does your dog become frightened by loud noises, strangers, other dogs or unfamiliar places?

Fearfulness can be caused by limited socialisation, genetics, a traumatic experience or even an underlying health issue causing pain. Some signs are obvious, such as trembling, hiding and a tucked tail, while others can be easily overlooked—including lip licking, frequent yawning, freezing or trying to move away.

Here are some ways to help them:
• Give them a quiet and secure space
• Avoid forcing them to face their fear
• Introduce triggers gradually and from a comfortable distance
• Reward calm behaviour with treats and encouragement
• Pay attention to their body language

Building confidence takes time, patience and plenty of positive reinforcement. If the fear is sudden, severe or affecting your dog’s daily life, give us a visit to rule out pain or other medical concerns and discuss how to help them.

Dogs may not understand every sentence, but they're excellent at picking up familiar words, your tone of voice, facial expressions, and body language. Together, these cues help them figure out what you're trying to say. Research also suggests that dogs process both the meaning of familiar words and the way they're spoken, much like humans combine words and intonation to understand a message.

Interested in trying Doga with your furry companion? Here’s your ultimate guide to Doga. Start with simple, gentle poses that encourage relaxation and quality bonding time.

1. Heart to Hound Mudra
• Sit cross-legged behind your seated dog. Put your left hand on your heart, and place your right hand on your dog’s heart. Close your eyes and breathe slowly.

2. Puppy Pay Mudra
• Kneel back on your heels, legs together, and fold over your laid-down dog in front of you. Extend your arms over their paws and tilt your head side to side.

3. Forward Bend
• Stand tall, feet hip-width apart. Sweep your arms down to the floor and bend at the hips. Pet your dog and feel the stretch. .

4. Inner Dog Mudra
• Sit on your knees facing your dog. Clasp your palms behind your back, then lean forward to pour your torso over your legs and connect your forehead to your dog’s forehead.

Always let your dog move naturally, and stop if they seem uncomfortable. If your pet has any medical or joint conditions, visit Lovincare before starting new activities.
