When Murphy’s parents first reached out, they were exhausted and discouraged — but what stood out most was how much they cared. They had already spent six weeks with a force-free/positive-only trainer and were still dealing with jumping, lunging, and biting. They were asking themselves a hard question: Are we really meeting his needs?

That’s not failure. That’s responsible ownership. That’s love.

I had them book a session and enroll him in my 10-Day Puppy Board & Train so we could really evaluate what was missing. Murphy absolutely thrived with positive reinforcement — but he also needed clear structure, fair corrections, and consistent leadership. Today, Murphy is an incredible fit for his family. The same people who once wondered if they could keep him now can’t imagine life without him. That shift didn’t happen because he was a “bad” dog — it happened because his parents chose to advocate for him and do the work.

Last year, when Nash was about five months old, he came to me for a puppy board and train. Since then, his parents have done an incredible job staying consistent with his training — and they always send me the best updates and adventure videos.

Let’s talk about puppies and threshold manners — because this one skill can literally save a dog’s life.

When a puppy blasts out of a crate, darts through a front door, or launches out of a car, it might look innocent… even funny. But that split second of excitement is all it takes for disaster: a puppy running into the street, dashing toward an unfriendly dog, slipping out before a leash is attached, or knocking down a child in their path.

That’s why one of the first things we focus on during a New Puppy 101 appointment is teaching puppies to wait at thresholds. It isn’t just obedience — it’s:

✨ The beginning of impulse control
✨ Learning to pause and think before acting
✨ Building a habit of looking to their human for direction
✨ A foundation of safety that will protect them for life

Once a puppy learns threshold manners, everything becomes easier and safer — walks, car rides, greeting guests, vet visits and the list goes on.

This is more than a command.
It’s a lifelong safety protocol and a non negotiable skill we teach puppies early on !

Meet Phong — a dog who went from reactive and frustrated to calm, confident, and free.
When she first came to me, she was constantly being put in overwhelming situations, like dog parks where she felt unsafe and overstimulated. On top of that, her natural herding, chasing, and stalking instincts weren’t being fulfilled — she was like a loaded spring with no release.

After just three weeks in her e-collar training program, everything changed. With clear structure, leadership, and purpose, Phong now gets to live her best life — off leash, confident, and thriving while practicing her true love language: herding!
