Why Do Maine C**ns Take So Long to Grow?
Many people are surprised to learn that a Maine C**n is not fully grown by the time it reaches one year of age. This is one of the unique characteristics that makes this wonderful breed so special.
Most domestic cats reach their adult size between 12 and 18 months of age. Maine C**ns, however, continue to grow and develop for much longer—often until they are 3 to 5 years old. During this time, not only do their bodies and muscles mature, but they also develop the breed’s distinctive appearance: a strong bone structure, a broad chest, and the majestic head shape for which they are known.
At our cattery, it is always fascinating to watch the kittens grow and change. In their first days of life, they are so tiny that they fit comfortably in the palm of your hand. Yet within just a few months, they transform into true little giants. Their rapid growth is one of the things that surprises new Maine C**n owners the most.
One of the most remarkable features of Maine C**ns is the pace of their development during the first months of life. At birth, a kitten usually weighs only 120–180 grams, but within a few months, its weight can reach 2.5–3 kilograms. Every time you look at newborn kittens, it is hard to believe how quickly they grow. Sometimes it feels as though they get bigger every single day.
However, it is important to remember that every cat develops at its own pace. Some grow faster, while others develop more slowly, and that is completely normal. What matters most is not a specific weight or size at a certain age, but good health, high-quality nutrition, and balanced development.🥰🐈⬛😊
