Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) in cats is an orthopedic surgery that removes the head and neck of the femur (the ball of the hip joint) to stop painful bone-on-bone grinding.
Why It Is Done
* Hip Fractures: Breaks in the upper thighbone or hip socket that cannot be repaired directly.
* Hip Luxation: Severe joint dislocations that cannot be popped back into place safely.
* Advanced Arthritis: End-stage joint wear where cartilage is completely gone.
*
* Hip Dysplasia: Severe malformation causing chronic pain.
